Under the clocks, on the steps at the very front of Flinders Street Railway Station, a Melbourne icon, has been the meeting place for generations of people, in fact, since the 1860s when the clocks were first installed. It's a Melbourne tradition. Locally, we say "let's meet under the clocks" and everyone knows where to meet, even if you don't necessarily come into the city by train. As well as being a great meeting place, it's also a great place to people watch as you'll see all sorts of people strutting their fashion style and stuff. It's one of the busiest, if not the busiest, locations in Melbourne. In fact, in many ways, it's the centre of Melbourne. It's directly opposite Federation Square and most of Melbourne's trams run past it.
A bit of history; up until the 1970s the train departure times on these clocks were manually changed by a railway officer using a long pole. Read moreFlinders street station is an old school and very classic Melbourne location. With a train line to most of suburbia and a direct link to the city loop it’s the perfect centre point of Melbourne. I find travelling is pretty easy from flinders street, getting around is also pretty simple with plenty of signage and very accessible platforms & entryways. There’s plenty of food options that serve from within and outside the station so you can always get a bite to eat.
One of my favourite things is the architecture, with a lot of the building kept in the same condition. Though the inside is a working station, the outside has such beautiful old school style. The clocks out the front are just the beginning and if you wander down either side you’ll be greeted with more stunning scenes. With the river on one side and the city scape on the other it’s a lovely walk. It can be a little dirty at times being a station and is home to some people of a night but overall it’s great for travel options and a stunning display of Melbourne...
Read moreWalking down Collins Street in Melbourne, I felt a mix of excitement and admiration. The elegant blend of historic charm and modern sophistication made it feel like the heart of the city. The grand architecture, from the beautiful Block Arcade to the impressive Scots’ Church, gave the street a timeless character.

Whether it was enjoying a peaceful coffee, admiring the heritage buildings, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, Collins Street left me feeling inspired and connected to Melbourne’s...
