We booked a table at la cabra last week to celebrate a birthday because it boasted inclusive menu options, which is frikken awesome, thanks for doing that y’all! Now here’s the issue:
We started the evening by ordering some drinks before the rest of the party arrived. We specifically asked the server if the espresso martini was vegan and then also asked if there would be any chocolate powder on top of the martini, as is sometimes served as garnish on this particular drink. The server pointed us to the menu which listed the ingredients, which were all vegan. Cool! Martini comes and there’s chocolate powder on the top. We do some back and forth about it being vegan or not, server brings out the chocolate powder container and I check the ingredients: milk solids. Even though we had specifically checked before the drink was made, there was no care in ensuring what we received was actually vegan. Instead of offering to replace the drink or an attempt at some kind of experience mending, all we received was a sorry and some awkward silence. Not wanting to create a scene, my partner took the drink and said that it was fine and that she would drink it, she now has a pretty intense stomach ache as she hasn’t had dairy for years.
I feel for the server here as he was not empowered in the slightest to experience mend, we could tell that he would probably have gotten in trouble by offering to replace it, which would honestly be disgraceful if that’s the case. So throughout the visit, all he did was express his sincerest apologies over and over again, which made us uncomfortable more than anything and like we were the textbook stereotype vegans that people love to insult for being difficult.
Rarely do I take the time out of my day to write reviews to dump on a business, but where is the education around dietaries for your employees? You offer an entire vegan section in your menu yet you don’t educate your staff on what that actually entails? This is day 1 of hospitality, you don’t knowingly feed people things they have expressed they...
Read moreI recently enjoyed the ultimate bottomless brunch at La Cabra Mexican in Carlton, and it was an absolute blast! For just $75 per person, this brunch offers incredible value with a five-course meal that includes options for both meat lovers and vegetarians, along with unlimited drinks for 90 minutes.
The menu kicked off with perfectly smoky char-grilled corn, followed by spicy and addictive buffalo chicken wings. The fried fish tacos were the highlight for me—crispy and perfectly seasoned. The beef quesadillas were packed with flavor and very satisfying, and we finished on a high note with delicious churros.
The drink selection was impressive, including options like Margarita, Sangria, and Mojito jugs, as well as house red and white wines, and a selection of beers. Being able to enjoy unlimited drinks with the meal made the experience even more enjoyable.
The brunch is available every weekend with two sitting times, which is perfect for either starting off your weekend right or wrapping it up on a high note. La Cabra also offers some great weekly deals for their St Kilda location, including discounted margaritas, tacos, wings, piña coladas, and sangria jugs, as well as a local discount for residents of nearby postcodes.
The atmosphere at La Cabra is vibrant and the decor sets a fantastic scene for a lively brunch. The service was exceptional—quick, attentive, and always with a smile. Everyone made sure our glasses were never empty and our plates were always full.
If you're in Melbourne and looking for a fun and filling way to spend your weekend, La Cabra’s bottomless brunch is a must-try. It’s not just a meal; it’s a festive and flavor-packed event that guarantees good food, great drinks, and unforgettable memories....
Read moreAll food was tasty apart from prawn taco. It was inedible. It was sour and bitter and tasted like it was off, it was disgusting. One bite was enough to make you want to spit it out. We politely let the staff know and she said they had changed the recipe, no offer of a replacement. Upon paying I noticed the taco was still on our bill I questioned this as only a small bite had been taken and we’d raised concerns about the seafood being off. She then said she cannot just give out free food as it’s taken out of her pay…. WHAT?!? We asked if anything could be done about this putrid food and she said no. Not a single apology or anything just “we changed our recipe I’ll let the manager know”. I asked to make a formal complaint as this food was clearly off and doing nothing about it is disgraceful. She said she will tell the manager. I asked to speak with the manager but was declined. I was trying to be so polite throughout this entire interaction and remained calm and tried to keep my voice low in a busy restaurant, I’ve even waited a few hours to post this review as I didn’t want to react unfairly online. However, offering no replacement and no change in bill is so wrong for an awful meal that was practically untouched. The whole situation was handled so poorly, and now I’m concerned by the fact that bad meals come out of this poor girls paycheck? Who runs a business like that surely that’s illegal.
I’m highly unlikely to recommend this restaurant to a friend, I’m actually more likely to tell all my friends to never come here. I’d be rating it all one star if it weren’t for the other food being decent and the lovely man who took our order. Apart from him, customer service is equivalent to the juice out of a nasty...
