Matthew Flinders Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

I would leave no stars if I could. Absolutely awful and discriminatory behaviour from the staff. I attended the bistro for a birthday dinner with myself (F22), my partner (M21), two younger sisters (F19, F14), and my sister’s partner (M18). After waiting for our food for over 40 minutes, two security members came over and asked for our ID’s. It is important to add that we were the only table being questioned, and I can only assume why, as a multicultural family, we were picked on. We immediately obliged, before being told we had to leave the premise because my youngest sister was not accompanied by an adult. I told them I was 22 years old and her legal guardian, as we live together and unfortunately neither parent is in the picture. Their response was “a legal guardian must be older, such as someone who is 30”. This is absolutely unacceptable behaviour. I understand we do not come from a typical nuclear family, but I am appalled by the way the staff interrogated my sisters and I especially since we were there for a birthday celebration. When I mentioned I was her sister, the staff gave me a look of disbelief - probably because my sister and I look different. The staff kept repeating “this is all policy” yet refused to explain what the exact policy was.

I have taken my 14 year old sister out to multiple places regardless of whether they serve alcohol and this has never been an issue. No one on the table served alcohol or acted inappropriately. Our order was cancelled, we of course obliged and left the premise, but we were also left with an awful taste in our mouth from the bitterness of the staff. Would not recommend and will definitely not...

Wings so over cooked Obviously just thrown in the oven and cooked the bejesus out of No marinade or flavored Just a sauce obviously out of a bottle poured over the top at the end Disgusting

Again cooked the crap out of No seasoning salt pepper nothing Again disgusting

Lamb kofta Again over cooked No flavor However Il cut the kitchen staff a little slack I suspect they were out of a box not home made I doubt weather these so called cooks would have the expertise to make a kofta let alone know what one was

Lastly wedges Hard to mess these up Believe it or not they did Again over cooked

On to the staff

Went to the bar twice Not an ounce of personality out of any of them nor a smile Sad

I witnessed numerous staff including the manageress I assume it was as she wasn’t wearing a uniform and dressed like she was going to the footy or something deliver meals and then walk past multiple tables totally ignoring the numerous empty plates and glasses Cmon guys it’s the first thing you learn Delivery meals from the kitchen Pick up on your way back

A rating that would surprise no one based on what I witnessed today Sorry guys but you need to do better A lot better

The 2-stars is for the bar staff on today, Monday 13 June, lunch & afternoon shift. I have never seen two people, one man and one lady, who actually seemed upset, and both so unhappy with their jobs. Neither were wearing name tags, and I know why. Service with a smile? I felt bad ordering drinks. You go out to have an enjoyable, happy time & you get this type of service and demeanor? Why is the bar tender also leaving the bar to deliver drinks out into the Bistro, when there is a line 10 people deep waiting to order? I stood there on 3 occasions with other people waiting nearly 5 minutes for someone to return to the bar. On arrival, it says please wait to be seated. We stood there for 10 minutes and no one came so eventually went in and found someone. Obviously understaffed as well, which is on the management and reflects poorly on the venue. People working in the food area taking orders were friendly, polite and with a smile (bar staff take note!) Food was quite good. In the games area, guy running it was clearly overwhelmed giving out cards, etc., Also, if you can put money on a card, why can’t you refund any remaining money on the card if you don’t use it all? Told they couldn’t do that. So many games were not working and the game where you drop the claw had almost zero toys in it, so the claw grabbed nothing. So many little kids losing their money. whilst the lollies in the game seriously tasted like they’d been in there for a year. It is a nice pub but there are some things that are not really encouraging you to go back and need attention if it wants people...
