REVIEW: Came back and they've switched to the a la carte menu only. Not as worth it anymore, it seems like they've switched up their menu as well and the yummy dishes below are GONE 😭. I will say though, loved the way they sliced up the crispy pork belly so that it cuts better as opposed to leaving it in thick dense cubes. Roti was fabulously light, crispy, and also very oily.
Have dropped down from a 4/5 to a 3/5 because the dishes weren't as creative, although it's still a nice place to catch up with friends. 02/22 Miss Mi takes asian fusion to new level by bringing dishes from all across Asia.

REVIEW: There's no option for a la carte, but it was fine because we were embarking on one of the best set menus I've had. I love set menus, because it really pushes you out of your comfort zone and forces you to try something new. It gives you the opportunity to discover your new favourite dish/flavour!
Instead of specialising in one cuisine as other restaurants typically do, Miss Mi takes advantage of Melbourne's openness to cuisine and shapes it into an experience.
Armed with surprise and curiosity, I was blown away. No dish is too salty, sweet - just a perfect balance that I know will keep me coming back and recommending Miss Mi to friends. My earth-shattering experience was from the Naniura of Sumatra. The flavours were so fresh and clean. It's filling, without weighing down the palate while looking incredibly unassuming.
Only reason which Miss Mi isn't a perfect 5/5 is because they took almost 3 hours to serve a 6 course. Incredibly slow compared to my other experiences. So, go, but ready yourself...

Starting with the starters, the dishes provided a journey of flavors that kept getting better with each course, from the mains to the desserts. The restaurant's tagline, "A place where Asia's diverse flavours and traditional techniques are reinterpreted for modern-day adventurers," is spot on. As an Asian foodie, you won't be disappointed with the selection on the menu.
One standout dish that I absolutely loved was the king prawns. The sauce was incredibly flavorful and complemented the prawns perfectly. I also had the leche flan and buko pandan dessert, which was simply divine. As a Filipino, I had high expectations for these dishes, and Miss Mi did not disappoint. The people in the kitchen were Filipino's ( narinig ko lang sila nag uusap in Tagalog haha ) and they did a phenomenal job of giving justice to these desserts.
Although the portions were small, they were bursting with flavor, making it absolutely worth it. Overall, if you're looking for a restaurant with amazing food, great ambiance, and exceptional service, Miss Mi in Melbourne is a must-visit.

Read moreReally disappointed in the overall vibe, the crazy expensive pricing (Curry $39, outrageous price. Had it been an exceptional curry the price would not likely have stung but it was so disappointing. Dry chicken, seriously, how did it make it on to the plate! Fragrant rice, $10, outrageous when one person only was eating the rice, and that was known. Waste of money and waste of food), the dull Margarita (had a spectacular, same classic Margarita, elsewhere in Melbourne the night before), the incredibly small servings of food but ridiculous amount of rice. My guest's ate their food, we all ate our food, we were hungry, but they each, like me, had read the reviews prior to dining, and were spectacularly underwhelmed. I would also add the policing of diners entering the restaurant was ghastly. Not allowing elderly people, I counted 7 people who wanted to enter the restaurant but were directed not to enter (sets a tone for an evening, that's for sure!), to sit down at their booked table, when arriving 10-15minutes early made me think a policy change needs to happen quick smart. There was not enough seating outside of the restaurant to cater for people waiting to enter the restaurant. The bar stools are not suitable for elderly, indeed, not suitable for many of us, and the seating options in reception, well, why would one want to sit in reception when one arrives for a restaurant booking, (and the restaurant is empty for dinner service but 'rules' meant various staff members literally stood at the entrance with a sign, preventing guests from entering). Maybe that's ok for a cafeteria? but wow! it's not okay when one is in 5 star hotel. Very, very, disappointing experience. The only one I had in the past week, of magnificent dinners elsewhere, in 6 other establishments. I'm constantly asked for places to eat/dine in Melbourne (regular visitor from Sydney) and in all good faith I cannot recommend Miss Mi. Great location, and delicious Roti, that's all, and that's not enough of a reason to recommend...
