Atrocious service - Macdonalds does better, if I can give zero star here , I would. Came here for a celebratory dinner - food was of a good standard but the portions are on the small side. This restaurant’s pricing is in the upper- mid end but the service is truly atrocious - you’ll get better service at Macdonald’s - truly disappointing. Came here for a celebratory dinner, the young waiter just stood at a nearby bench and ticked off dishes as they arrived on the table by the servers. EVERY single refill of water for the teapot or for the water carafe had to be prompted by me - NOT once did he volunteer to do this as this is HIS JOB , even when he can clearly see the empty teapots etc sitting in the table for half an hour or more- simply lazy!

The kicker is when the waitress accidentally knocked over a full glass of our very expensive champagne and broke the glass whilst serving a freshly steamed fish on the table - glass slivers shattered all over the fish. They offered to change the sauce only rather than voluntarily steam a fresh fish for obvious safety reasons . Had to argue to get a fresh fish steamed, no offer of a small discount or a free token dessert to placate the customer. Finally no formal apology from management until we have paid the full bill and were leaving . The restaurant was very busy as it’s new and a novelty still so I guess they don’t care. But for us,...

Updated 29 April 2025: My sister booked 40 of us to attend yum cha over the phone and again they did not have the booking as 40 of us descended to the restaurant.

The person handling bookings over the phone is hopeless. Put in a proper booking system with confirmation if your people cannot be trusted.

One of our guests had to force them to put us into their private function room since there were so many of us arriving.

Do not recommend unless you like to gamble.

Original review:

Called to book a table of 8 two weeks in advance and when we turned up today there was no booking, they couldn’t find the name nor the number so I have no idea what the gentleman booked me in for. I’m fully expecting to get a call from this venue at some point on another day asking where I am.

The stuff up on the weekend before Chinese new year meant we couldn’t get anything else at the last minute for our party so we had to reluctantly give this venue our business and order takeaway which we were told would take 15 mins, 45 mins later we got our order.

The lobster noodle was meaty and tasty, the rest of our dishes were okay and to standard.

Recommend that you double check booking with them. There is no confirmation sms or confirmation of booking the day before.

There was a lady there who understood the frustration of the situation and did what she could to make it better so thanks to her, there’s...

Recently, I've become hooked on the Durian pastry at Phoenix , a popular Cantonese restaurant in Boxhill known for its dim sum. The durian flavor is just right, while the crispy, flaky exterior makes every bite a delight. It’s a must-order for me every time I visit.

Another favorite of mine is the Deep-fried yum dumpling, probably because I’m a big fan of taro in general. The layers of flaky crust add an aromatic crunch that’s simply irresistible.

The Avocado puff pastry BBQ pork bun has a unique look, almost like a melon-flavored pineapple bun, but when it comes to taste, I still prefer the classic BBQ pork pastry.

Other dishes I really enjoy are the Pickled vegetables with pork tripe and the Steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce. My daughter, however, is all about the Jade crystal shrimp balls.

As for the Deep-fried whitebait, I personally think Golden Lily does it better. The other dishes were good overall, with nothing falling short in quality.

I also appreciate that you can make reservations here on weekends, and the atmosphere is quite comfortable. Despite the weekend crowd, the service remains attentive.

Here’s a receipt of the dishes we ordered for four adults and two kids that day, for...

We have always been a fan of their other restaurant in Doncaster East and their Chinese BBQ stall in Box Hill Central. This restaurant is very good for Australian standards. They offer some traditional dishes that you’ll find in Cantonese Australian restaurants but they do offer many dishes in the style and taste of what restaurants serve in Canton (Guangzhou) today. We travel to Guangzhou regularly and find this restaurant in Melbourne one of the best for Authentic and modern Cantonese food. The price is more up market then most Chinese restaurants, but the quality of ingredients are very good and fresh. Taste is good for most of their dishes. They don’t use much MSG. Fish and lobster is always cooked well and the taste is consistently good. Snow crab with Foie Gras is really good compared to many Cantonese restaurants in Melbourne if not the best. Try and pre order the Pipa duck as it’s the best in Australia and I have tried a lot. Yum Cha is the best in the eastern suburbs but yum cha everywhere has gone downhill since Covid. Service is good and not perfect but it’s hard these days with high staff turnover. Overall a good restaurant that deserves at least a 4.5 star.

They serve a typical Cantonese style yum cha menu with a few twists on some dishes. Everything is steamed to order, except for the baked dishes. The quality of the dim sums is the most evenly spread across their menu compared to other restaurants in the south eastern suburbs. Siu mai and Har gau are good. Fried prawn rolls are excellent. Tofu skin rolls, beef balls and Shao lung baos are average. The rice rolls are good although I think they shouldn't be so stingy on the quantity considering the price. You get only half of the normal amount at other restaurants. The BBQ pork buns have a delicious filling and the bun texture is soft and fluffy. However for some strange reason the construction is problematic and they seem to be falling apart in your hands. The dish of the day is the spicy pork dim sum. Flavours and textures are all exceptional. Like any other yum cha restaurant, don't expect service to be five star, but it's quick and friendly enough.
