The restaurant is rather tight as they do try to fit as many tables in a small space. You might need to book in advance for a larger crowd. The place seems a little unhygienic for my liking but still OK. You need a table number to order your food and pay on the spot before they serve you so you might have issues ordering ahead of your table being ready.
On our first visit here (group of four), we had an extremely rude waiter serve us. We were looking for a table to sit and there was nobody to greet us at the door/long walkway. There were no "Please Wait to be Seated" signs and we wanted to get out of the way (a very narrow walkway for customers and wait staff walking to and from the kitchen) so we decided it was easier to sit down on a table that had just left. The waiter (Asian man in his mid 40s?) immediately walked to our table and yelled "I have not cleaned the table. Can you just wait? JUST WAIT. JUST WAIT". To which, my response was "Ok, where should we wait?" and he pointed to the walkway. We stood at the walkway while he cleaned (trying to get out of everyone's way; customers who were leaving, customers who were in line to take their orders, waiters walking in and out of the kitchen). He took no longer than 2 minutes and the table was ready. I wasn't sure why we had to leave the table but we obliged anyway - just felt like he didn't have to be so rude about it. He then gestured for us to take a seat and we did.
We ordered our food at the counter and while it was being prepared, we got the attention of the same waiter and asked for some additional cups as there was only one available on our table that he had prepared. In a very rude tone, he said "yeah, yeah, yeah" and walked off.
Our food arrived and we really enjoyed it despite being treated horribly by the waiter.
I really do hope management does something about that waiter's attitude. I understand that this behaviour may be normal/acceptable in Malaysia but he is currently working in Australia and this might give other people the wrong impression of Malaysia's culture. I have been to Malaysia many times and not everyone in hospitality...
Read moreHonestly this place reminds me of the Bak Kut Teh i ate growing up in Klang. The flavours of the Signature broth not overly herby or salty, they come served in the traditional clay pots, and the atmosphere of the restaurant transported me back to Malaysia. The restaurant was busy with mostly Malaysians, i can tell from their accents, and it made me feel like i was home.
I love that there is an option for combination meat cuts - we got some lean meat, pork belly, cartilage, ribs and stomach! It was the perfect combo if you can’t decide (or don’t want to settle on one!). Everything was super tender and easy to eat, even the cartilage! Would highly recommend enjoying this with some fresh garlic and chillies that you can help yourself to.
Pokari one was great as well! The pork belly super tender and was packed with so much flavour from the slow cooking. Simply wonderful and will definitely melt in your mouth. Even though it’s cooked with dried chillies, i don’t think the dish was spicy at all. Do note that this thick soy sauce is very salty and i wouldn’t recommend drenching your rice with it.
Get the onion rice! It tastes so much better and that’s the more authentic way to go. The onion oil and fried onions that is mixed throughout makes the rice so much more oily, fragrant and really complements the flavour. Nothing beats! Simply could not get enough.
The chinese doughnuts were super crispy! I love soaking mine in the hot broth so it softens a little, but still stays mainly crispy. It’s so good when you’re chewing it and the broth gets squeezed out.
Overall, a really good experience. Definitely found my favourite BKT spot in Melbourne! Staff were super kind and friendly, they made us feel very welcomed. Will be back to try the Dry BKT next!

Read moreWe used to go to Auntie Franklee to get our bak kut teh fix, usually after watching someone eating bak kut teh in Malaysia on Youtube. So this time we decided to try something different. We have passed this place many times but have not got the chance to try. We really like it. Different than Auntie Franklee, where this one has less herby taste which I quite enjoy. I also like they offer the option which cut of meat you’d like. We do not really like fatty meat so we just ordered the ribs. I love the sides. Pretty generous. We ordered the Chinese doughnuts, tofu and shiitake mushrooms for the sides and basic bak kut teh for 2 (medium size). My recommendation is to get plain rice instead of the garlic rice. Definitely we will come back here again to get our fix. Next time we will try the dry bak kut teh. Highly recommended. If you like this review please hit the...
