We're from the north and traveled an hour to see if the hype is worth trying. We ordered halo-halo, sandwich, silog dish and tried the purple yum cake. The halo-halo was alright, nothing special, they just served it with scoops of ice cream, decent amount of ube and leche flan on top to make it look appealing. I barely tasted any banana, sweet potato, etc. It was mainly gulaman and kaong. I also find it too sweet and the ice had large chunks. It wasn't crushed finely.
The pastries and cake look really tempting but I also find them too sweet. The lechon kawali silog dish was alright but not really worth the price. But I really liked their chicken avocado sandwich, it's a winner.
The wait time for the food to be served is around 5-10 minutes depending on how busy the place is. It can accomodate max of 10 pax at that time due to density limit and some people have to wait outside. The location is along a busy road so you may find it hard to park your car during peak hours.
The owner and staffs are warm and accomodating. There was just one male staff who was a bit rude when he attended the counter and we were asking for take away containers and a plastic bag. The front staff also helps in the kitchen so the counter is left unattended most...
Read moreA taste of the Philippines on Warrigal Road, Chadstone? This somewhat rare type of food is tucked away amongst the other eatery close to Holmesglen TAFE in Chadstone. A casual dining of authentic, good quality Filipino eating. The place is clean, the service is a warm-welcoming Filipino greeting with a friendly smile. The menu is for all day, everyday type of food. A simple garlic rice, tocino (pork) and 2 eggs. They also have longanisa (sausage), Filipino style hotdog, tapsilog (beef), pork belly, and much, much more. Sweets ? Well you cannot visit without trying their ube cake (chiffon cake). For those not familiar with a purple cake, don’t let that discourage you, give it a go as it is light and delicious! A family favourite! We don’t miss a week without visiting Purple Yum Cafe. May it be dine in or take away, we grab a favourite meal and most of the time, we don’t leave without having some sweets. The place is always busy, so that says a lot! Oh the price is affordable and the serve is very generous!
Thank you to the owners for giving us the opportunity to taste a simple but absolutely tasty Filipino food! Also a big thank you to Cherry and Vi who never fails to make me and my family...
Read moreWent there yesterday because I really wanted to try their ube cake and it did not disappoint. It was how I imagined it to be, soft and it wasn't too sweet. Too bad I didn't order coffee because it would have been a perfect match with the cake. The halo halo was okay, it didn't give me the wow factor that the ube cake did but price is reasonable as the size is huge and 3people can share. As for the palabok, was a bit disappointed because it really looked appetising and the portion was huge as well, it's just that, it was lacking taste and umami. I don't know if it was just that day but, I think if that's their recipe, then they should adjust a bit just to give more taste, that's one reason why I'm giving them 3stars for now. Another reason is the portion size of the shanghai, I didn't expect it was just 4 small pcs for $12. I was expecting more but the taste was okay, a bit salty but when dipped with the sauce, it's good. It was busy that time but the staff kept their cool which was fine, I hope they just offered water or served the service water as soon as a customer goes to their table. Overall, fairly...
