Q Le BAKER — Restaurant in Melbourne

I was a regular customer of this cafe for a long time. I recently bought one of their speciality loafs which was obviously over-cooked and tasted awful. So I called and reported my experience to one of their staff who proceeded to interrogate me over the phone and question how i'd stored the bread and suggest that contributed to my disatisfaction. She was obvioiusly trying to trip me up to get out of replacing the loaf of bread. That made me feel very uncomfortable. Then when I returned the bread to their shop, I got nothing but attitude from the Baker who got very defensive and insisted the bread was not over-cooked (despite being almost impossible to cut and tasting over-cooked). He started counter-claiming how all their customers gave positive feedback etc etc. I pointed to the almost black, singed crust...but all to no avail. He just dug his heels in and refused to replace my loaf of bread for free, as though it was a personal insult to his baking skills. In the end, I gave up and managed to get him to agree to taking 50% off another loaf. But it was my last from this bakery. I told the owner they've lost...

My neverending quest for delicious bread led me to this inviting little bakery in Prahran Market last weekend around closing time. I decided to try their baguette, I enjoyed it. A little innocent mishap led me back here again this morning for yet another baguette . As I walk, cradling baguette in arm, I feel it is still a little warm. I could not resist the temptation to stop there and then and tear a piece off.

I am surprised by the crisp tear, similar to the sound you hear when you take a bite off a well deep-fried morsel. Inside, it is fluffly, light and moist with a little spring. You can see the bread inside was cooked by steam which is what makes a good baguette so wonderful.

It sounds, smells and looks right. So exciting for the senses - this is true gourmand experience. A sourdough that's not too sour - something I personally prefer. By the time I get home, I've enjoyed almost the entire thing. Yes, on it's own - it needs nothing else.

If you're after fantastic bread accompanied by a genuine smile and excellent customer service, I do recommend you stop...

The service was absolutely fantastic. They were so flexible and accommodating when I had to change my plans. I gave them a very brief idea of what I wanted, and they delivered a cake that was more beautiful and delicious than I could have ever imagined.

They created a stunning Burnt Basque Cheesecake with fresh raspberries and a touch of gold leaf. The raspberries were so fresh and held their form perfectly, making it very presentable. The cake itself was incredible—it had a classy level of sweetness that wasn't overwhelming. The crumb had a satisfying texture that was perfectly firm without being burnt.

I couldn't be happier with the result or with how helpful and professional the team was. They truly made a special day even more perfect. I highly recommend Q Le Baker for any...
