A Fantastic New Addition to Melbourne’s Dining Scene
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Quarter House Melbourne, which just opened this week—and what a brilliant start they've had. The restaurant was buzzing with energy, packed with eager diners, but the incredibly warm and attentive hostess still managed to seat us at a cosy table for two.
We ordered a selection of dishes to share, and each one was a hit. The pan-fried barramundi was perfectly cooked, paired beautifully with salsa verde and cavolo nero. The crispy sugarloaf cabbage was an unexpected standout—charred just right with a deliciously smoky edge, balanced by a punchy tomatillo rojo chilli sauce and puffed grains for texture.
Now, the Caesar salad deserves a special mention. It’s unlike any I’ve had before—fresh, rich, and layered with flavour from the anchovies to the soft-boiled egg. It somehow felt both classic and elevated at the same time. We also enjoyed the fried squid, tender and crispy, served with pickled fennel and a zesty lemon aioli.
Service throughout the evening was absolutely top-notch—friendly, prompt, and genuinely welcoming. For a venue that’s just opened, Quarter House already feels like a Melbourne favourite in the making. We’ll definitely be back.
A small but impressive detail: the lemon halves came wrapped in soft muslin bags, so you get all the juice without the pips—simple, elegant, and thoughtful.
Quarter House is off to a phenomenal start. We'll definitely be back.
SECOND REVIEW: We cam back! Second time at Quarter House in Docklands and it just keeps impressing. The chorizo & manchego croquettes were rich and crispy, the chicken parma was spot on, and the spiced half chicken with couscous, chickpeas, and goat’s cheese was packed with flavour.
I can honestly say the food is amazing, and the service is just as good. It’s rare to find that perfect mix of great food, friendly staff, and a relaxed vibe—Quarter House nails...
Read moreCame for the Sunday roast and it was fantastic value. $35 for a decent amount of meat and a plate loaded with vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The picture doesn't show it, but it also comes with pumpkin and carrots tucked underneath everything. Would definitely get it again, and everyone was full by the end. Only feedback would be the meat was a bit of a letdown and my least favourite part of the dish. It was quite chewy in parts despite being thinly cut and seemed to lack flavour without the gravy. I'm glad they have done something different, but it probably needs some tweaking in my opinion. Everything else was great though.
In terms of decor and atmosphere, it's very inviting, stylish, and fairly cozy. The pub area has a massive screen and I could imagine this place going off when a big sporting event is on. Didn't check out the rooftop yet. Only criticism would be the entrance doors are extremely heavy to open and feel somewhat dangerous.
Highly recommend this place. Literally across the road from Southern Cross, so easy to get to. Will...
Read moreLost my expensive scarf at an afterwork drink, returned to the bar 30 minutes later and it was gone. Staff did not respond to messages on Instagram, did not pick up phone that day or the next. Upon returning to the bar, I got thrown between 3 staff members who had no idea as to what to do in that situation, and were busy conversing amongst themselves. They did not have a designated lost property area, and instead just asked around each other and left me there.
I fully acknowledge my own wrongdoing in this situation; but for a venue that is so large and ought to be so professional - the processes and contact-ability of the staff were very lacklustre. It is not a very professionally run venue; volume and headcount above all else.
Also, went there for a lunch and then a dinner; food was mediocre on both occasions - pasta lacked flavour, and house burger was unevenly cooked not well prepared given the price. For a place charging $30+ for mains and $18+ for a pint, the quality and service is not...
