We recently hosted an event in the cocktail/function room. To secure the date, the venue required a $500 deposit. While we were informed of the $3000 minimum spend for the night, it came to our attention midway through the function, after the kitchen had closed, that the $3000 minimum spend did not include the $500 deposit, which also needed to be spent that night. Consequently, the total minimum spend for the evening amounted to $3500. Notably, this crucial detail was not mentioned in any of the emails exchanged during the booking process or in the corresponding paperwork.

Following up on the reply to the owner's message, we had several clarifications with Liam, who was on duty that night. According to Liam, we were instructed to utilize the $3000, in addition to the $500 already paid as a deposit. Unwilling to spend a total of $3500, we reluctantly allocated the funds to additional alcohol expenses. In acknowledgment of the confusion surrounding the necessity to spend the entire $500 on the same night with no possibility of a refund, Liam and your team extended an apology. They offered a dinner as a gesture of goodwill, recognizing that the miscommunication had not been adequately conveyed to us and that similar incidents had occurred in the past with...

I recently left a review for the Rising Sun hotel Richmond following a function. The manager on duty at the time made us spend the $500 deposit at our function, making it a total of $3500 instead of $3000. We were advised that we had to spend it and could not get the money refunded. The venue said we are confused about what happened, but that is not the case. It is a shame that the rising Sun hotel slanders customers instead of the trying to address issues, and that staff members aren’t always telling the truth. I have since contacted the venue to discuss the case further, unfortunately despite having my email and contact number they have NOT responded. They were quick to respond to a negative Google review, but still won’t respond to emails or call to discuss with me. Use this venue with caution if you hold a function, depending which manager is on duty you may be forced to spend you deposit instead of getting...

This used to be my regular pub to watch the ufc. The food and service used to be good. Today they had a boring menu w about 3 options on it. No parmas, no lamb cutlets. The man in charge was rude and offered no apologies, only excuses loaded with arrogance and bad attitude. He even swore to a customer that didn't want to go from the bistro room into the bar room to pick a a pie himself instead of asking a staff member to serve the food to the customer. He said the kitchen can't keep up with the orders when they are full... well some serious management review need to be done including a massive attitude check. My wife wanted a coffee after lunch and the bar tender had to ask for special permission to make a coffee. The barman was vey embarrassed at this but had to obviously comply with the stupidity of his boss to avoid getting in trouble. So not...

Talk about a revamp!!! Incredible upgrade to a true institution of Richmond. The vibe in the dining room was warm, cozy and welcoming. Perfect for a cold winter night. The wall scones were a particular favourite and a call back to the venues name. Food was simple, timeless and well executed. Service was on point and very attentive. After dinner we went exploring through the rest of the venue and the warm brown tones of the dining room blended seamlessly with the front bar and surrounding areas. A true homage to the venues original roots with a beautiful respect to its history modernised. Definitely going to become a regular spot.

This is a great pub (or it was, under previous ownership). It is currently CLOSED AND UNDER RENOVATION and has been for around a month or so. Nothing about this is mentioned anywhere which is pretty poor in my opinion - I feel sorry for those turning up after relying on Google or their socials & finding nothing but a dark, gutted building. There is a small bottle shop next to it which is open sometimes. That’s it. I have reported this to Google 3 times but they won’t alter their listing saying that the pub is still open with meals, sports tv, pool tables, beer garden etc etc. IT’S CLOSED PEOPLE!!!!!!

This place really is a gem! After reading the reviews re new management, we called in for a roast today and so pleased we did. From the moment we walked in, the staff were welcoming and friendly. Ordered the beef and lamb roasts, and was absolutely amazed at the quality. Really up there as one of the best in Melbourne these days, and won’t be surprised if they’re booked out every Sunday sometime soon if this is the output of the kitchen. Wonderful log fire, a great selection of drinks and the bread and butter pudding with rhubarb was a winner too. Will definitely be back!
