Shish Shawarma & Grill Niddrie — Restaurant in Melbourne

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. A complimentary bowl of warming and very tasty lentil soup to start the meal. That was followed by a shared shish platter, cooked over coals and adding that lovely smokey flavour to the meats. All served with salads, pickles, and a couple of delish dips - we chose an eggplant and a hummus dip. So good! Also included beautiful soft bread and a delicious serve of basmati rice with chopped meats. And to top it all off, fantastic felafal - freshly made and cooked to crispy perfection. Best felafal to be had in Melbourne, so full of flavour! The crew on the job were outstanding, so quick at getting orders out. We were fed within about ten minutes of ordering. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back to try out the shawarma or HSP plates that were flying out the door! Obviously the word is getting around about this gem in Niddrie. The food was average. The staff were the rudest I have encountered in a very long time. The food was thrown in a takeaway container and meat was in the salad and the dips and the person who served it couldn't have cared less. I had asked for no rice (twice). He put rice in the container and when I pointed out that I didn't order, or want the rice, he scooped it out with a spoon and his hands and left some of the rice in the container. I was so astounded that, had I not paid for it, I would have walked out. To make matters worse when he threw the bread on top of the container I noticed how dirty his hands and fingernails were. I reheated the lamb and threw the rest of it in the bin. (only because I thought it was safe to reheat the lamb) An expensive lesson learnt. I do not recommend this...

WOW, AMAZING, SUPER TASTY I wanted to try as much as possible so i got the mixed grill and added chips. The only thing I regret now is the food coma. The chips are perfectly cooked, crunchy and salted to perfection. The salad is has amazing flavour and the rice is absolutely delicious. Not sure I've had better rice anywhere. The dips are flavourful and compliment the meat and bread perfectly. Now to the meat, OMG, the marinates they use are incredible and add so much flavour to the meat. Between the shish and the shawarma you can't go wrong. The meat is unbelievable and I can't recommend highly enough. This place will certainly be on my rotation for when I don't want to cook.
