📍- Temaki Sushi, Melb CBD

Tucked away at the end of Little Collins Street is @temakisushimelbourne – an intimate 10-seater Japanese restaurant that specialises in temaki, which means “hand roll” in Japanese. This style of sushi is rolled by hand using seaweed, rice, and fresh fillings. At Temaki, the dining experience follows a seasonal set menu and involves assembling your own hand rolls, using premium ingredients curated by Chef Hiroshi San.

The restaurant is small and cosy, with a minimalist yet warm interior. Soft timber textures, handcrafted details, and ambient lighting create a calm, refined atmosphere. Gentle jazz plays in the background, adding a modern, moody touch to the otherwise traditional setting.

The set menu [priced at $145] begins with a welcome sake and seasonal small plates, before their signature DIY temaki course. Each ingredient – from tuna tartare w/ grated yam and okra, to the salmon w/ ricotta and sweet white miso – is fresh, thoughtful, and beautifully presented. While the servings might not look like much at first, they’re surprisingly filling once you start eating. Plus, the rice and nori are refillable if you need more.

The set concludes with warm somen noodles served in a delicate bonito broth, followed by a hojicha pudding paired with soft mochi, sweet adzuki bean, and fresh berries.

The ingredients were incredibly fresh, with many of the vegetables sourced directly from their own farm in Dandenong. Even the elegant crockery adds to the experience – each piece is handcrafted in their in-house studio, reflecting the same care and craftsmanship found in the food.

We really loved the meal and dining experience here! Temaki Sushi offers more than just a great meal – it’s a thoughtfully crafted experience that blends tradition, quality ingredients, and quiet creativity. It truly felt like we were taken...

My second time of eating at Temaki Sushi. Played a little bit this time. Would love to add some Temaki Sushi and Maki roll that I made :)

————————————

Had the best Temaki Sushi experience in Melbourne🍣 This is a multi course menu. And daily changed based on what the chef can get🤩🤩

Fresh appetiser - I loved the cucumber and wakame pickles🥒 Miso soup - delicious dash broth. Temaki Sushi plate - amazingly beautiful pottery plate which they made in house 🫢 there are 12 different cuisines on the plate with 3 sauces. You can choose any combination to make your own Temaki Sushi. My favourites on that day were the Wagyu Beef and Duck 😋 Somen - very clean flavour noodles with beautiful broth. Hojicha Pudding with Umegashima Hidden Tea - they use the very special Hojicha powder and green tea from Shizuoka Prefecture, Hidden Tea is the brand name. Not just very delicious, but really special tea with a lovely story.

Staff were very nice and willing to talk about all the beautiful stories. House made pottery pieces. Organic vegetables from their farm. Directly imported Sake/Wine/Beer from small breweries in Japan. Organic tea etc etc.

Small venue can only hold 5 groups - 10 people at a time. It’s a great place for a date, or a nice dinner with your bestie, or a business dinner, etc etc. Also, you can enjoy...

We had a fantastic dining experience at Temaki Sushi! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We really enjoyed the variety of options on the menu, making it easy to find something for everyone. What made the meal even more special were the thoughtful touches—the welcome sake, warm green tea, and delicious dessert that rounded out the experience perfectly.

A unique highlight was that most of the ingredients come straight from their own farm in Ferndale (except the seafood), adding a fresh touch to every dish. Even the pottery used for serving is handmade by them(Supposedly they've imported the clay from Japan), which added to the restaurant’s warm and authentic atmosphere.

The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable evening. The only small challenge was wrapping the hand rolls ourselves, which was a bit tricky at first, but overall, it was a fun and interactive part of the meal.

If you're looking for high-quality sushi with great service and a well-rounded dining experience, Temaki Sushi is definitely worth a visit! (We even received a free gift of Honey from their...
