Years ago, this place used to be what was then, my favourite Greek restaurant in Melbourne, called Dips. Now it's replaced with That Greek Tavern, and I thought I'd give it a try and see what it's like there now as a whole new place. The aesthetics are the same for the most part, though freshened up a lot, and nice and clean. It's inviting and the staff greet you warmly and take you to your table promptly.

The menu is fairly extensive for entrees, with the mains a little bit more limited. A lot of meat platters and the usual fare. Prices seem a bit steep, but when you see the food come out, you know you're getting value.

I had the Whitebait for my entree and they were really good. There are heaps, so you could easily share them. I shared the chicken platter for main, and I have never, ever had chicken so succulent before. It was sooooo good, that there was not a shred caught between my teeth anywhere (I had no other use for my straw like I usually do elsewhere, lol). It was so moist and tender and cooked perfectly in a beautiful marinade. The others had lamb and said it was perfect and not in the least fatty. We shared a bowl of chips for the table (four of us) and it was ample.

The service was friendly, and the food came out fast. The music gave the night a nice atmosphere and yes, there's value for money. Would I come back again and recommend it to people? You bet. It'd be good for mid size groups of people or even for parties of two-four. Parking is easy and if you love Greek food, I'm sure you'll love...

How much would you expect to pay for the plate of food I've included on this review? A small plate mind you, for 1 person. $25? You wish! Try $40! That's right! $40 for abit of meat, pita bread, salad and some dip. Upon looking at the menu, I was shocked to see a small plate of open mixed meat gryo was $40 and I think large was $60. Crazy prices! I've had plenty of greek food at restaurants such as Jim's Tavern, Stalactites, Pita wrap it and no way their open souvlakis are this expensive! This is like fine dining prices! Mind you the food is good but standard like the other Greek restaurants I've been to. Nothing extraordinary or spectacular. A friend suggested to try out the restaurant. Even she said it was over priced and we were overcharged for something that's just standard and simply not worth it. When I got home I told my partner and he too was in shock how much I paid. He even shared it with a few friends who work in the hospitality industry and they too said it was ridiculous. Now I know the reason why they don't advertise their menu on...

I recently dined at Greek Tavern restaurant that delivered an overall fantastic experience, highlighted by some truly standout dishes. The souvlaki was absolutely perfect—juicy, well-seasoned, and grilled to smoky perfection. Equally impressive was the grilled octopus, which was tender, flavorful, and had just the right char without being chewy—a real testament to the kitchen’s skill.

The service throughout the evening was very good. Staff were attentive without being intrusive, and everything moved at a comfortable pace.

The only slight disappointment was the saganaki, which seemed to have been pre-cooked and reheated. It lacked the fresh sizzle and melty texture you’d expect from a dish that should arrive hot and bubbling straight from the pan.

Despite that minor flaw, the meal was a great success overall, and I’d happily return for the souvlaki and octopus alone. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving quality...
