The Moor’s Head — Restaurant in Melbourne

We’ve attended The Moors Head on previous occasions and had good experiences. Their website says they do functions and love hosting special events. We booked a birthday for 18 people and arranged for everyone to have the “Moor Tasty” package. We arrived on time however our table wasn’t set and there weren’t enough seats for our whole party. After 30 minutes we were able to all sit together. The manager apologised and gave us a bottle of free Prosecco. The manager asked me on two occasions if our table was ready to order mains. On both occasions I said yes we were. The manager said he would go get his ordering pad. The manager would then take other tables orders instead. They put through several tables orders even though they hadn’t been in the restaurant as long as us. Close to two hours after arriving we got our main meals. The majority of our party were happy with their pizzas. However, my pizza base was burnt. A choice of salad came with the “moor tasty” meal package. We didn’t get to pick our salad. A cabbage salad was given to us. Lastly, when we got home and looked over our receipt we realised we were overcharged for everyone’s “moor tasty” package. We booked this function well in advance. It appears that the restaurant does not have the resources to cater for functions. Most our guests enjoyed the food. But we weren’t impressed with the service.

The pizzas are delicious, and the only reason I’m not rating a one star… Dine in service was absolutely awful 😫 we had a bigger table of people. About half the table ordered a Peroni, and then the waiters brought out Peroni 0 alcohol.. we had to explain multiple times we wanted actual alcoholic beer (obviously???) and instead of offering to bring out new beers they hesitated for a loooong time until the table said all good don’t worry about it to not make a fuss. So no actual beers were brought out at this stage, and skip forward to the bill - the table was initially asked to pay $12 per non alcoholic beer (HOW are they even that expensive?!?!?) until we had to ask for the bill to be rectified.

And oh no it doesn’t end there! We order 8 pizza’s and 2 didn’t show up after about 10 minutes after everyone else got theirs. We had to go up to follow up the pizzas which were apparently never actually included on the docket that went to the kitchen 💔

Nothing was offered to rectify any of these mistakes at the time they occurred which is the most disappointing part. Make a mistake? Absolutely fine. Don’t offer anything to fix it? Awful service and clearly not worried about good customer impressions.

I barely give a moderate review to a place but I left tonight with mixed feelings. It was our first time at the place, I did the booking for 5. The food was delicious👌🏻 Very tasty, great size of pizzas and some different from the usual ones. Starters also worth a go, consider the set menu options, they really worth it. The service was very good, especially the staff member who served us, he was so helpful and explain to us everything! But it wasn’t all so good. A friend found a hair in the piece of kofta she was eating. We had to mention it twice to offer us a 10% discount at the end. For me to be honest I don’t care about the discount but from the fact none member of the kitchen using a hair cap, all had a beard(I’m a bearded guy myself) and no protection! Come on, we’ve been a pandemic, we know how to keep our food preparation safe! I didn’t liked also the lack of ventilation in the kitchen area which was making the place smelly and smokey all night.
