What a gem! I honestly canât believe I havenât heard more people talking about Capers. Itâs been sitting on my list for agesâso long that I couldnât even remember why I saved it. But after finally visiting, I left full, happy, and very impressed.
Iâve unintentionally been on a Greek restaurant streak lately, and Capers has absolutely earned its place among the best. There are so many things I loved about this spot, starting with the interiors. Itâs like stepping into your yiayia and papouâs houseâevery corner is filled with nostalgic charm. From the retro cabinets near the bar to the eclectic knick-knacks, the space feels like a beautifully curated homage to old-school Greek homes. Itâs clear that every detailâfrom the cutlery to the furnitureâhas been thoughtfully chosen to reflect the concept, even if it looks like someone just raided their grandparentsâ house (in the best way possible).
The mood lighting and casual vibe make it the kind of place where you could rock up in Ugg boots and no one would bat an eye. The staff were super laid-back, in a good wayâattentive without being overbearing. You order and pay at the bar, which worked perfectly for a relaxed night out. No waiting around for the bill, just eat, chill, and head home when youâre ready.
The menu is small but mightyâwhich I loved because everything sounded amazing. If it were any bigger, Iâd be overwhelmed. We ordered the Toursi (pickled veg), Dolmathes, Patates, Spanakorizo, and the Giovesti with mushroom and tomato (a special that night). Every dish was hearty, flavourful, and packed with the kind of warmth that brings back memories of my grandparentsâ cooking.
Little places like Capers are exactly what I love discoveringâhumble, delicious, and full of soul. Iâll...
Read morei have been wanting to come here for a long time and i was not disappointed! The courtyard and furnishing all reminiscent of every immigrant child's upbringing - loads of nostalgia! The greek food was excellent - the pastitso had loads of flavour, the beef tender, the pickles could of been more acidic but the olives were a stand out! Juicy, plump, magnificent! The highlight for me was the greek salad Martini - I would of had 10 of those if not for the intrusion of a social event. This is the only critique Capers gets. Poor planning and monitoring on the venues behalf. The social aspect could of been pushed to post 10pm when most patrons would of finished dining. Instead we had way too many un-self aware patrons with their butts in our food. Management was apologetic, but again, this could of been easily prevented by not allowing so many patrons into the courtyard until diners were finished. I will still go again, just not on a night they advertise a...
Read moređ Capers, Thornbury - 4.7 âď¸ out of 5.
I am obsessed with this Greek restaurant and bar in Thornbury!!! Delicious food, traditional decor and music, a beautiful outdoor beer garden. There was even random videos, such as of people dancing, projected on a wall. So random but so fun. Whatâs not to love.
Pictured is the: âDolmathes ($13) âPastitsio (baked pasta, $23) âSpanakorizo (slow cooked spinach and rice with tomato, $19) âStifado (beef with a hearty sauce, feta, and house made bread, $30)
All the food was delicious with rich flavours. If I was to be super picky Iâd say that the bread waa a little more firm than usual, but that really is looking for faults. I loved every meal, with the dolmathes and spanakorizo being my standouts.
Absolutely canât wait to come back here!!
