This hotel maybe in a very difficult location but it punches above its weight! The booking process was seamless. Confirmation from the host came almost immediately via phone call and she (Samantha) arranged for late night check in. Check in normally ends at 2200hrs but I was arriving after that (driving from Melbourne). It was a welcome surprise and made my heart feel at ease as I would not rush myself to get there. Thanks Samantha. That is what a good host does. Arrived at 2330hrs. Check in was easy. Parking advice given with assurance of security cameras all around the hotel including the car park. A tour of the hotel given going up to my room on 3rd floor. Access keys are digital. Bar entrance is separate from guest access which was a big plus. Guest entrance only accessible using guest access keys. That is a very good safety feature I welcomed with a happy face. The hotel is clean! The fixtures in the hotel were not only classy but were also brand new! A true test of quality were the toilets! Very very clean. Immaculately clean and had all the facilities of a 5 star hotel. Electronic sanitary bins were a plus! Australian made classic body wash, shampoo and conditioner with eccentric aromas was also a very big plus. Instructions on towels re-use were well posted on framed cards. There were cards with instructions all around the room too. The bed was new! So was the linen! A touch of ethnic fabric on the decorative pillows was on point! So was the Russel Hobbs steam iron! So was the ironing board! A large TV with a variety of channels š. Hooks for towels and gowns on each side of the bed. Very old classic hardwood wardrobe was a good touch to that Victorian style abode. Aircon fully functional and very effective. The carpets all around were new too. The paint on the walls was clean and noticeably recently coated. A small bar fridge with the usual tea and coffee making facilities was there too with a clean electric jug. š The second floor hallway had a vending machine with a variety of snacks and drinks including bottled water. Everything about this hotel was on point! The staff were very friendly. Check out was easy too. I definitely recommend this hotel šØ š. Will definitely come back here again whenever I am visiting Canberra. I felt safe and enjoyed my...

Hotel Queanbeyan Review
Hotel Queanbeyan (also known locally as the Top Pub) sits on Crawford St, Queanbeyan. Itās a mix of pub + accommodation + events space + meals.
What works well:
Value for money: Guests often comment that the price is reasonable, especially for those looking for short stays rather than luxury.
Cleanliness & comfort: Rooms are generally clean, reasonably comfortable, and āas advertised.ā Beds are comfy, shared amenities are maintained.
Atmosphere & service: The pub side is popular; food portions are generous, service is frequently praised as friendly, and the place retains a local-community feel. Many enjoy the live music, events, and the social pub atmosphere.
Convenience: It has free WiFi, free parking, a restaurant/bistro open for lunch and dinner, and a drive-thru bottle shop.
What to be aware of / what could improve:
Shared bathrooms in some rooms: Some room types use shared bathrooms/enāsuite is not always standard.
Noise: Because itās also a pub with live events, there can be noise (especially on event nights). Higher/upper rooms feel the bass or hear the pub bar. If you need quiet, this may matter.
Food limitations: Some guests noted that vegetarian options were limited. Also, food quality is good for pub fare, but not gourmet.
Door / access issues: A few guests reported that the hotel door is locked at times and getting in can be tricky.
Overall impression:
Hotel Queanbeyan is not going to compete with high-end hotels, but it does very well in its niche: affordable, informal, pub-style accommodation with character. For travellers who value good food, a friendly bar atmosphere, and cleanliness, itās a solid pick. If your priorities are quiet nights, en-suite luxury, or high-end amenities, you may want to consider whether the trade-offs are acceptable.
If you like, I can pull up more recent guest photos or compare it with nearby options so you can see whether itās the best fit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNo signage on where to go when you arrive. Have to try and find a staff member who then takes you to the front room near main entrance.
Parking is good to have in the back of the hotel.
Rooms are decent and clean. Beds are comfortable.
Bathrooms could be cleaned more often as there is a lot of soap scum on all of the tiles in all of the showers, plus one of the showers had a blocked drain of hair and fluff. The shower head also barely covers half your body when you stand under it.
I stayed for two nights. The first night, my room on arrival was very strongly fragranced and you can very clearly hear the loud music downstairs for karaoke night. No mention of karaoke night anywhere I could see on the booking website, but it finished around 11pm.
Upon returning back to my room on the second night, I had an issue with the room and staff were helpful in getting me another room to stay in instead.
However, in the second room, it smelled of damp and there was no TV remote?
Overall, a decent stay at a reasonable price, but many things could...
