I might be sounding like a Karen, but having had sushi across many restaurants across Australia and overseas, I can say this has been my most negative experience so far. Service was appaling. No greeting from the chefs, no ordering system (looks like they had tablets previously but not now) and the waitresses didn't once come to our table to take any orders. The menus were falling apart with the laminating coming away form the paper. The main chefs were busy, not sure what the other two were doing out the back, but the owner needs to review the staff. The portions were smaller than usual, had less flavour, were poorly presented (very roughly formed) and the plate prices were, on average, priced high. The eel I ordered was undercooked. The only way I can describe the soy sauce is typical Kikoman soy sauce (not sushi soy), watered down, with added salt; the worst sushi soy sauce I had ever tasted, by a long way. The train was full of plates, and when the chefs made another batch, they just placed them on top of each other, not rotating the plates meaning the bottom plates would be the oldest; this practise is a recipe for disaster (and food poisoning). The fact we didn't get sick afterwards is a small miracle. Please...
Read moreI took my partner here with some of my friends. We also meet friend here on the way. The place was recommended :-) by a colleague and it turned out one of the best sushi trains ever!!!!!!! The service was second to none. I felt so welcomed and relaxed. We were offered soft drinks, wine and top Japanese beer soon after we sat down :-)). We settled for a beer, actually two! After a couple of minutes a lovely young gentlemen checked to see if we wanted too order any food off the menu or have something custom made. mmmmm! This surprised me. What nice approach. The food off the train was so fresh and at the usual temperature for all sushi trans like the ones I have enjoyed in Japan and LA I must say. The avocado was so light and creamy. Plus nice sauces too. I thought I was in heaven. The environment was comfortable, relaxing and modern considering other businesses on Darby Street. We really enjoyed the experience and was never pressured to leave or order anything. I was so excited to come with my friends and eat the Sushi at Sushi Revolution Darby Cooks Hill. We will definitely be back again next week with my partner and friends. My favourite Sushi was - well...
Read moreSushi Train was once a go-to spot for fresh, delicious sushi in a fun and casual setting. Unfortunately, those days seem to be long gone. On my recent visit, I was shocked at how far the place has declined.
The first thing that hit me wasn’t the food — it was the state of the restaurant. Thick dust coats the walls, and stock is scattered carelessly along the floors, even spilling out from behind the kitchen benches. It creates an impression of neglect and poor hygiene that’s hard to ignore.
The food, once the highlight of the experience, is now disappointing. The gyoza arrives cold every time, and the sushi servings are noticeably smaller than they used to be. To make matters worse, the plates and lids on the sushi train are visibly old, scratched, and dirty. It’s clear they haven’t been replaced or properly cleaned in a long time.
What this place desperately needs is a thorough deep clean, some basic maintenance, and a return to the standards it once proudly upheld. Until then, it’s hard to recommend Sushi Train to anyone looking for a quality...
