In the mystical realm of gastronomic adventures, my partner and I embarked on a quest to discover an alternative venue for a late breakfast and lunch. Our trusted companion, a charming sausage dog with the grace of a dachshund, was our loyal guide. And so, it was upon the enchanting Darby St in Newcastle that we stumbled upon the illustrious Cafe Sanctum.

As we entered the hallowed grounds of Sanctum, we were welcomed with open arms, our canine friend included. The staff, possessing both exquisite service and genuine culinary expertise, greeted us warmly. The sun bathed the scene in its golden light as the clock struck 3 pm, the perfect hour for an adventure in culinary delight.

Our first choice, the triple cheeseburger, stood as a testament to the culinary prowess of Sanctum. The triple cheese, a glorious trifecta of dairy perfection, embraced a large, succulent meat patty. Pickles and sauce, meticulously selected and expertly combined, elevated this dish to an exceptional level. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving us enchanted by the sheer deliciousness.

Yet, my heart and appetite reserved the highest praise for the ultimate treasure of this establishment, the Big Breakfast. As a connoisseur of breakfast feasts, I have ventured across the Newcastle Hunter region in pursuit of the perfect morning repast. With utmost confidence, I declare that the Big Breakfast at Cafe Sanctum is unparalleled in its magnificence.

The bacon, ethereally crispy and generously portioned, danced on my taste buds. Perfectly cooked eggs, a true testament to culinary mastery, adorned the plate. Garnishes, delicate and beautiful, added a touch of elegance. The shroom/fungi, a heavenly creation, left me yearning for more. But the shining star in this celestial spread was the crispy, juicy cherry tomatoes, their flavor exploding like fireworks in my mouth. And at the heart of it all, an incredible chorizo that exuded a sizzling, spicy charm.

On the mythical scale of breakfast experiences, this one effortlessly reached 10/10, a rare and coveted achievement. To complement these culinary wonders, a cup of coffee, as wonderful as the stories told by bards, graced our table. The service we received was nothing short of exceptional, wrapping us in a warm, welcoming embrace.

In the annals of gastronomic quests, Cafe Sanctum in Newcastle shines as a true gem. I shall return to this enchanting sanctuary, for the memories forged here shall forever linger in my heart and on my taste buds.

H O R R I B L E Experience... 45 min wait on coffee 90 min wait on food – if it comes at all! Shops was not even full. Incompetent chef, unapologetic waiting staff, very poorly managed floor. Absolute waste of time.

I went for Sunday brunch with my partner this week and order coffee and eggs on toast. They forgot my coffee order and I only received it after returning to the desk to ask TWICE! The staff then added my coffee to the end of their orders after I was waiting 40 mins.

As for the food I was told the wait was going to be 30min. When I had finally received my coffee, I asked about the wait on food as it had been 45mins by now. I was told it will be out shortly. After patiently waiting I returned to the desk after an hour and asked if my dish was coming out soon. I was told it will be “4 more minutes”. At this point I was quite hungry and frustrated. I patiently waited another 20min and then returned to the desk to ask for my money back. I was told “it’s coming now”. I waited a few mins at the desk, but it never came. I received by money back only for the dish that did not come at which point there was only 3 other people in the shop. The worst part was that at no point during my time in the shop did the waiting staff ask if I needed anything or if I was still waiting for my food. I don’t know who is more incompetent the waiting staff or the chefs time management. Absolute waste of time coming here...

Came in for Sunday breakfast. Waited over an hour for food despite barely anyone else being in the cafe. After the hour wait only one meal came out. The “big breakfast” consists of one egg one rasher of bacon, half a sausage and soggy bread. Filth. No wonder every other cafe is busy except for this one. Staff were negligent giving us water glasses with no water, had to ask for water. Coffees took over 15 minutes and weren’t great at all. Won’t be coming back.

Rather than having a snap back, maybe train your staff and chefs. No initiative or recognition. I spoke to the staff about the missing ingredients on the plate and was told that’s how it came. The food was plain terrible regardless of half of it being missing. You’d think with the one hour wait for food they wouldn’t forget anything on the plate but low and be hold. You need to run a better business,,, just saying

I’m not the only one who had this absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Read the other reviews. It’s very clear this business is unprofessional and clearly non viable. They have no concept to accept responsibilities for their poor actions. Absolutely no wonder every cafe was busy except for this one. No apology or anything for the terrible service, just plain bad. If you’re a Newcastle local looking for somewhere to eat DO NOT GO HERE. It...

I was surprised by a cafe that i'd otherwise overlooked. The budda bowl was "really great vegan food on Darby St. I'd come back"... my partner The chorizo hot pot was offered to me with vegan sausage and no egg and it was both delicious and great value. Toped off by lovely customer service and coffee from Jessie the barista in spite of a hectic influx of lunchtime traffic. The specific long black bean blend "ascension" was strong yet a little fruity. My girl friend was suggested the "really great" vegan bowl by a young lady "elyssa" who was on her first day. She was helped with menu knowledge by Jessie. I was impressed again by her customer service as she was seamlessly learning a new job. The walnut schnitzel burger with vegan aioli and sweet chilli was awesome, definitely no excuse to eat animal meat with this as an alternative. Damn guys. 🥰 Local and i'll come back . . . Came back for the VEGAN HOT CHOCOLATE and again awesome.

A cozy little cafe with indoor & outdoor dining options. They are dog-friendly & have a water bowl for your furry friend (if you have one) They do have a toilet out back, which was nice & clean! The food was DIVINE! They have all-day breakfast AND lunch! So tasty & nutritious. They have Vegan, Vegetarian & Gluten Free options to suit your dietary needs. I had the "Veggie Breakfast" with scrambled eggs-- so so delicious *chefs kiss* as well as a Turmeric Latte (on almond milk)- it was perfection! My friend had a beautiful fresh juice & the "Soul Bowl" (Felafel, pickled Veg (yum!), beetroot hummus (to die for!) Quinoa, avocado, spinach, tomato, cucumber, roast chickpeas (delicious little crunchy, savoury pops of yum!) It was like eating a delicious rainbow! Hehehe The staff were lovely & helpful too! A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Will definitely be returning here.
