The Koutetsu — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

The first time I went to Koutetsu, I absolutely adored it. The atmosphere is so mystical and exciting, 5 stars even. My boyfriend and I were ecstatic to take a visit here on our one year anniversary last night however before we could make it inside, we had an encounter with your doorman, who is the rudest I have ever met. He did not make it clear to us that was his job, in the dark leaning against the wall, chatting up a girl and not paying any mind to us. As i made my way for the door inside, he had the nerve to make a snarky comment about us not acknowledging him and told us to "be more polite next time". I am frequently disappointed when I decide to try new bars, so I feel I speak genuinely when I say that this is now, one of my absolute favourites. In fact, I am very sad they are not located in Brisbane (my home state). From the moment I walked in, I felt welcome. The staff were friendly and demonstrated obvious expertise in their understanding of different types, and brands of alcohol. There is no pretense here, although in my humble opinion, the most discerning connoisseur would feel right at home, amongst people who are passionate and fascinated about providing high quality, and interesting beverages. Visiting from Sydney, going to Koutetsu for some pre dinner refreshments not knowing what to expect. The Hidden nature of the bar definitely adds to the allure of it all and the friendly staff with their plethora of knowledge and experience when recommending and providing us insight to our drinks gave us the confidence that we were in good hands. The atmosphere is by far the highlight being very intimate but also funky.
