After 7 days on a cruise ship on the way to Singapore, Mitchell street Darwin was the word on the street for a good feed. With due diligence we prowled the various pub menus along it and finally decided on "The Tap on Mitchell to satisfy our wanting of a good steak. The Tap was at least $12 cheaper than all the other menus we looked at, but a busy local crowd filled the place which was a good sign. We both decided on a scotch fillets that came with a salad, chips & a choice of various sauces of which we chose creamy garlic and mushroom for my lovely wife. The steaks were both cooked medium rare as we had asked for and were melt in the mouth with beautiful smokey char flavor from the grill. Puuuuurrrfect!!!! The chips were well salted and crunchy and went down a treat. The salad was also a step up from the usual consisting of mixed lettuce, shaved cucumber, carrot  & sliced salad onion topped off with a roasted sweet potatoe peel. Both sauces were well made and a great match with the steak. All in all it was a fabulous meal had with a few cold frothies to quell the heat. Our waitresses and barstaff were very friendly accommodating & only too happy to take a photo for us. Our only regret is we live in Victoria and a return visit might take a little while but it will be on the cards next time we are back!! Well done Chefs!

A lively bar with decent ambience and live music A couple of drawbacks though. I had the grilled salmon and veg. The salmon was overcooked and dry. The token piece of sweetcorn was small, dry, cold and tough The asparagus was overcooked. All just badly cooked by low-skill cooks/chefs and over-priced for the quality The terrace had 'notional' smoking areas and non-smoking areas but they were close to each other and powerful fans, in any case, made a nonsense of the segregation. Effectively, most of it is a smoking bar, which we don't like, especially when we're eating

Croc burger was awesome, cinkle chips were a nice surprise! Buger was generous, packed with a good sized bit of croc and fresh salad stuff. We got expensive beers $14 for a tin of Alice brewing IPA which was at least really great. Good selection of NT made beers and spirits. Super friendly and welcoming stuff. 100% recommend. Wasnt sure what we were gonna get on the main strip but this was a super pleasant surprise

Very upsetting and shocking behaviour of one of the bartenders last night, who assaulted a customer. As my husband tried asking the lady at the bar if they were selling cigarettes, she moved on the side to the sink at the bar counter, next to what seems to be a corridor/walk way. She moved there as she couldn't understand my husband. As he then repeated himself, that's when she used physical force, pushing him and added "don't cross the bar". The side bar being open without any signs of restrictions, he wasn't aware of the boundaries, as she's the one who moved there to be able to understand better what my he was trying to ask her. This is an assault of an employee towards a customer who didn't touch her, didn't harm her, wasn't offensive in any way; there were communication misunderstandings over cigarettes! Nothing of that were necessary. Asking another employee to assist him would have helped; asking or even showing him when he should have stand, or even not moving next to that walk way to understand my husband who followed, would have been the right thing to do. Very...

I often treat myself to a breakfast at The Tap on a Saturday and Sunday morning. Breakfast meaning bacon and eggs plus any additional food, such as baked beans hash brown etc.etc. you care to add. With a coffee it's usually around $20 give or take a couple of dollars. The meals are big. Would keep a truck driver happy. Yes, I know what the doctors say but even doctors die. So I figure I will treat myself while I still can. Setting is great. Right in the tourist/backpackers strip of Mitchell Street and 100 metres up from Crocasaurus Cove or 250 metres down from the Mitchell Centre. You sit outside but under a covered roof. Perfect in the dry season. Can be hot and humid in the build up but if you like the heat, it's perfect. Would recommend it for breakfast as long as you are not looking for the so called 'healthy ' meals. Although, I think they are on the menu but I have...
