What a disappointment. We had booked in for the $90 pp “ 4 course tasting menu.” A premium price that carries high expectations. On enquiring about wine we were told that we could purchase by the glass or (get this:) buy a bottle from their wine store and pay another $25 corkage on top of that! We duly ordered 2 glasses of the only Pinot on the menu. Wine was fine so we asked for another; the waitress brought out 2 uneven half serves and explained they had run out of that wine. I had to pour some of one glass into another to equal levels. The waitress told us we’d only be charged for one glass (?????!!!!!!; that’s all we were given!!). The meal was actually 9 courses where quantity generally far exceeded quality. The most disappointing course was the main of barramundi which was watery and bland suggesting it hadn’t been thawed/prepared prior to grilling. We were sat in a corner next to shelves of condiments etc for sale; it didn’t feel anywhere near a fine dining atmosphere. We were also the only ones in that room/store/shop which probably indicates something. There was a lot of banging, clattering and chat coming from the adjacent kitchen but not much else of substance. Overall, a very ordinary experience, inconsistent food ridiculously priced. I’ve never written a negative review before and am doing so to encourage prospective diners to really check this place out before shelling out your $. I hope this place improves as it’s in a great location. The $25 corkage on a bottle purchased there still makes...
Read moreOk we ordered the 1.1kg lamb shoulder,$70 currently waiting 45 minutes for it to be cooked. Meanwhile we have received our saganaki with pine nuts (2) currents (lots) and 4 cubes of watermelon $14 saganaki was small, but nicely cooked. Unfortunately one end was dry and chewy. Bread (warm) and garlic parsley dipping sauce was very nice $6. As the expensive lamb shoulder didn’t come with any vegetables were offered roasted pumpkin, very soft and delicious $14 and green mixed salad ( just cos!) but boring actually, taste dill and vinegar. anyhow lamb shoulder was beautifully cooked but some sections where screaming for a jus. The dish only come with A dribble over the dukkah. Dessert was creme brûlée, ruined by badly burnt sugar on top that had to be spat out and left on the plate. To which the waitress just smiled and took it away without asking if anything was ok. Service average. Hit and miss in every dish, and...
Read moreMy partner Nicole and I recently hosted our wedding day from Conlan's Wine Store, and can say with absolute honesty that we enjoyed a thoroughly lovely experience from start to finish.
From the initial point of contact months prior to the running of the day itself, Kate and Matt at Conlan's ensured the day was a faultless and memorable one.
The food and beverage options are fantastic, and held in extremely high regard by those who know the venue. The combination of attentive service, delicious menu options and a classy yet relaxed venue makes Conlan's a must visit when in Port Fairy.
We would highly recommend Conlan's to everyone - from those looking for an enjoyable glass of wine and a nice meal, to those also contemplating hosting a function of significance. We look forward to returning for many...
