I love Port Fairy. My first time so thought we’d try the wharf for fish and chips -a classic meal if done well. I ordered squid with Greek salad and husband ordered fish and chips. If I may give feedback, the squid was undercooked and still had the chewy membrane attached which made it rubbery. The salad part was adequate presentation quite good. Flavor fine. Fish and chips was ordinary and not overly flavorful, garden salad was adequate. For the price a bit of effort to make the food a little unique and tasteful would have been nice. View over wharf was lovely, the place needs a people friendly matre de at the door to greet. We were turned away to come later but could have been offered drinks whilst waiting for opening time… instead we spent money across the road and nearly ate there had they had an available table. Lady was grumpy at the start and friendly at the end and asked feedback so we told her truthfully!!! Better to make constructive comments that you can work with to improve on. Read moreWe stayed 3 nights in Port Fairy and absolutely loved this place each morning we would walk down there and order a takeaway coffee and they make fresh hot jam donuts so we got addicted they are the best donuts ever....we are from Melbourne and have eaten many jam donuts but these ones are delicious! Crunchy and fresh and the jam is not too hot cooked to perfection! We also went back to order fish n chips on another night and it was yummy. We had to wait in quite a long queue to get served and ate in the restaurant so maybe might be better if they had separate serving for takeaway and restaurant diners. Also the guy taking orders for food was also pouring wine it took too long....needed someone else doing that or get them to order at the bar...that’s my only suggestion! But overall it was such a great place so I give...
Read moreI usually take others reviews as a guide and not the be all and end all as I can appreciate that mood, time of day, staff numbers, customer influx and a full or half moon;-) all add to the contextual eqauation. It is the owners intermittent response here, that leaves me doubtful on whether I will stop in on my weekend away visit tomorow. My tip to to him/her sometimes best not to respond at all if you can't display some form of care and consistency toward the reviews. Just a thought. ----- Take 2 of this review so I popped in at 9.15am this Sunday for coffee and their highly acclaimed dognuts. Unfortunately the kitchen had not yet opened so I missed out. That said, the coffee and yo yo were great and the staff were lovely. I look forward to trying the fish n' chips on...
