I have been buying produce from stoney's for years. Today I purchased a dozen oysters, usually the stock is fresh and delicious. This batch of oysters was not cold (even though I saw them being pulled out of the fridge) one was off and the others are inedible and dry. I rang to let them know that maybe they should check thier stock and I was advised they "where fresh from Brisbane this morning". I was met with attitude and a rude person who took the call. I was only letting them know that it might be wise to check thier stock. They may have just come from Brisbane but it doesn't mean there isn't an issue with some of the oysters in the bunch IF there was an issue with refrigeration etc. I was offered a new dozen if I was willing to return to the shop but why would I return when I was given horrible customer service and the possibility of more off oysters?
Please if you are buying from here check the stock prior to it being packaged up not become complacent like I did.
Response to your comment- I have 100% supported your business over the years and have bought bulk seafood from you. Never again will I step foot in your establishment and will be telling all my friends to avoid buying from you. Instead of accepting that there was some bad oysters and in that batch you choose be aggressive towards someone who was supportive of your business. Your 3.7 rating shows that your customer service and goods have slipped.
I didn't go back to the store as per the discussion I had with one of your members over the phone as it was not worth driving back to the store to recieve horrible customer service. I was just advising your store that YOU could make other members of the community SICK if your stock of oysters wasn't checked. My husband and I know what a bad oyster smells and looks like (growing up on an island helps you become familiar with this).
I hope you as the owner/ manager become better with customer service like it used to be or your business will suffer. FYI I wouldn't have reviewed your store if the person on the phone wasn't so disgusting with the way they handled the phone call.

Read morePrawns and seafood are are rare treat this day n age with the cost of living how it is. I lashed out and got 1kg of medium king prawns. The ones in the display looked old and not fresh so I asked for some fresh ones out of storage(hoping they were the next days sell in the display out front). Major disappointment when we got home. They were extremely salty(obviously to preserve the used by date) and mushy. Full of water which confirmed they were frozen also. I recon I would have got better quality at the supermarket. Extremely disappointed and I feel like I’ve been ripped off. I’ve read comments from the owner of this establishment responding to other negative reviews from other people and I find all they are trying to do is somehow attempting to justify their poor quality. So please, don’t do the same when you read this review. Fix the problem and at least offer a refund. You are in business to provide good quality fresh food right? Well what I got was far from that.😢. We live an hour away so going back to the shop to complain and ask for a refund was out of the question. I will call the shop in the morning to complain and ask for a refund. Let’s see how I go. I will post the outcome. I called the shop this morning after reading the managers below response. I spoke to the manager Megan. She was very much on the defence straight away and insisted nothing is wrong with the quality of their prawns. I advised I merely put this review here to let others know of the experience I had with what I considered to be poor quality prawns, nothing more or nothing less. The outcome of all of this is that Megan has now given us a store credit in the full amount of the initial purchase price of the 1kg medium king prawns that we bought. I thank her for doing this so now we can give the quality of her products another try. Hopefully the next purchase will be good so we can give a good review to match...
Read moreOrdered 3 barra burgers, $4 chips and a serve of potato gems. At $15 per burger, we were looking forward to a nice piece of grilled barra, lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese. The 'barra' was some kind of seafood patty. Unfortunately tasted like crab sticks were mushed up into it. All three of us tried to eat them but they were awful :( The salad was ok but stunk of the patties. We're not a fussy bunch and eat just about anything usually. The chickens didn't mind the patties and salad the next morning. Chips were over-cooked and old. We made other plans for dinner afterwards. We had been to Stoney previously for fresh prawns which were brilliant but these burgers were dreadful.
Note: when we ordered barra burger from another fish and chips shop, we had a piece of barra. No filler.
29/07/2025: Mum just picked up crumbed barra, calamari, chips and 6 crumbed oysters. Thought we'd try this place again. Sadly, there was only one oyster, the fish was so overcooked, the crumb was rock hard in places and the barra pieces were about half sized (definetly cut), chips were old and wrinkly and we all feel sickly from the amount of oil. Mum called and they said they'd add her to the credit book but we won't be back. Really disappointed. The meals for the three of us cost about $70. Definetly not...
