On entering The Victoria's king suite my breathe was taking away by the sheer luxury and generosity of size, this was quickly followed by an overwhelming sense of comfort and relaxation. Instant holiday mode. The sun always shines north of the Great Dividing Range, in Victoria, which makes exploring Rutherglen's wineries a joy and their proximity to The Victoria (very close) easy peasy. Contrarian as it may seem, since The Victoria's restaurant specialises in flame cooked, local produce, I ordered oysters and barramundi for dinner, paired with Ringer Reef chardonnay. The oysters were heavenly, and believe me, I've spent many Saturday mid mornings, being elbowed, whilst slurping freshly shucked oysters at the South Melbourne market and none have compared to these. I suspect it had something to do with expertise of selection and the secret dressing. Once the chardonnay arrived, my day was complete, there is something extraordinary about the Ringer Reef chardy, it's like secret door to Narnia. Kate was our server, and her explanations of all the meals and wines was exceptionally informative, but most importantly both Kate and her staff listened to all our requests and any food allergies/sensitivities we had. After an extensive exploration of dessert and plenty of digestifs (guided by Bridie) we retired to the library for charades and uninhibited guffawing. Lucky we had the rooms nearby. I highly recommend The Victoria Hotel as a proper get away of the...
Read moreBe prepared for an escape that will take your breath away. From the moment we arrived the hospitality and service was outstanding. The Victoria Hotel has been magnificently refurbished with all the charm of yesteryear combined with modern furnishings to allow you to escape. A library to relax in and a balcony to join the sun.
Located in the heart of Rutherglen you are within walking distances of a variety of local businesses that cater for all your needs. I must say the meals at the Victoria Hotel are worthy of a five star rating, cudos to the chef and the kitchen crew. All items are mouth watering and delicious but if you are a steak lover, here is your place to dine in Rutherglen. With more rooms being built this will surely become a favourite of anyone wanting to stay in Rutherglen. Located in the main street there is some street noise in the front rooms. There could also be a bit more light over the bathroom sink. The new rooms being built are at the rear and we look forward to returning and staying in once they are completed. The dining area and hotel refurbishment are amazing and make any visit a pleasure.
With a dozen or more local wineries only a short drive away, this should be your place to stay. Kate and Matt are certainly turning this place into a local gem, thank you for making our getaway a...

I had a panic attack at 6 am in the morning – called the hotel number – can’t believed the phone was answered – thank you so much – as it was my sons wedding and we needed to stay there! So appreciate whoever I woke up ❤.
We needed to leave the brides bouquet in a dark cool room and we were able to drop it early to the board room – again – thank you for accommodating that.
Our room was amazing. Decoration style elegant and quality fittings. Everything needed for a great stay – coffee machine, kettle, iron, robes, even a make up mirror in cupboard under the sink. Loved the keyless entry – saved carrying a card around with us.
Front bar team all amazing – chatty and made great cocktails. Genuine people who engaged with us in conversation. Toilets clean and fresh. we ate in the bar front garden with the wedding oarty group on the Friday night - great atmosphere - enjoyed the music play list.
Overall we had a great stay and pleased we took an extra night there after the wedding so we could relax and enjoy another day in Rutherglen.
Would definitely recommend to stay here. Beautiflu Heritage Hotel that has been...
