My wife and I were in Rutherglen for a family birthday and we were recommended the pickled sisters for breakfast. Is only about 5 minutes from town and is located in one of the wineries (sorry can't remember which one) There's plenty of parking and it's a picturesque setting. Is you being the kids they can play outside with the large toys such as chess, jenga and connect four. Inside is even better. The hot chocolates are delicious and they come with 2 marshmallows so you still get one after your wife grabs one and I'm told the coffee was also really good. The food was amazing with generous portions and is not a problem to just order whatever sides you want for breakfast instead of a menu item, so you can just order toast, bacon and avocado if you wish. All the items we ordered came with a side of what I guess you would call chutney and it was absolutely delicious. From memory they are open from 10-3 so If you're in the area and looking for somewhere with great food and great customer service then pop in...
Read moreWe booked dinner for a Saturday evening in mid June. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and shown to our table in the outside enclosed seating area. This area felt so intimate, and charming. The availability to partake in some competitive board games while waiting for our food was a fun addition. The decor in our seating area had such a cool vibe to it. We really loved this area. The wait staff were super friendly and attentive. Our meals arrived quickly and did not disappoint in presentation or taste. My partner had the barramundi, cooked to perfection while I chose the wild mushroom risotto with grated blue cheese. Both were delicious. Do not go pass the dumplings with warmed chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, this was the perfect ending to our meal. If there was anything to mention regarding our experience it would be perhaps to reduce the frequency of visits to our table from the wait staff. Overall we would not hesitate to dine here again or recommend The Pickled Sisters...
Read moreIt's difficult to give a review on this place as our entire table were very mixed. Mind you this was only one experience and could have been a factor of short staff / new employees. Service was....weird. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. We did however have one that was very rude, abrupt, grumpy and short with us when she took our order. We were not previously informed certain meals and drinks were unavailable and expected us to have a backup order ready asap. She must have heard us mention that she wasn't very nice cos all encounters after that was over compensated for -very awkward mega smiles. Food - overall was good. We were in a group and ordered a variety of dishes including entrees. Exact split of 50% of us enjoyed our meals and the others were underwhelmed. I suppose it depends what you ordered but the meals which got top appreciation were the mussels and beef cheeks. Would not recommend the duck. Meals are pretty overpriced considering it is just a cafe. Close to $40...
