Had a very wonderful experience here! I booked a table for two on 20/04/2022 at 7:00pm.
We ordered a dozen oysters and I loved their Russian baked oysters! It reminded me of lasagna. It was very warm and flavourful. The watermelon + lime granita oysters was unique! I was quite pleased with it, but would have preferred if the lime flavour was stronger to balance out the sweetness of the watermelon or add a little bit of salt.
For entrees, we ordered the poached prawns and smoked beef carpaccio. The smoked beef went so well with its parmesan and capers. It felt like the beef was melting in your mouth because it was sliced so thinly and it was just amazing! I’ve had plenty of beef carpaccios around, but using smoked beef was definitely a very nice change in flavour. I highly recommend it, and is definitely a dish I would come back for.
The poached prawns was nice, but would have preferred if it was seasoned a little. The most interesting element in that dish for me was the brandy soaked grapes! I enjoyed having that very light hint of alcohol flavour bursting with the grapes’ sweet juices when you bite into it.
For mains, we ordered the beef fillet and grilled barramundi. The barramundi was cooked perfectly, and the skin had a very nice crisp to it. The mirin + miso butter sauce was so sensational; full of body with strong flavours of umami - but the potato + edamame mash balanced it out so well. It was definitely a wow dish for me.
The beef fillet was cooked nicely to our medium-rare request. The potato tartiflette was delicious too, and the portion was just nice.
With 5 dishes, 4 drinks + sparkling water ordered, our bill came to a total of $244 - which was way below what we were expecting to pay. I was expecting anywhere between $300-$400, but what a nice surprise!
Amazing food, great pricing, wonderful service from staff, beautiful atmosphere within and stunning views outside. I would definitely come back and would be recommending this place to others. Much preferred it in comparison to Nobu or...
Read morewould give negative stars if possible graeme is the owner and should not be managing, he has no idea of how to run a restaurant or to implement effective management duties my partner reserved a table for Valentibes Day 7:30, with the note on the booking to not be late. We arrive 5 mins before due, told on arrival that someone was in our seat and it was right on the window on the water. We wait on the couch as told for 30 minutes where we see him move tables to create space as he clearly does not have the courage to ask people to leave past their booked time or to have even booked the seating correctly at all. On arrival after 30 minutes we are sat, after 10+ other reservations arrive and are sat. We are sat 3 tables back from the area we were told looking at dead grass and pavement not the water. 10 minutes later we finally receive tap water. another 15 and we get our “on arrival” orders for beer and sparkling where we have to wait another 15 minutes to even receive the opened bottle. 5 minutes later we receive our other “on arrival” items - bread and truffle butter, yet we receive cold hard bread and no butter. Over an hour of waiting after arriving at our booked time, and we have cold bread, no butter, a glass of tap water and our “on arrival” drinks over 45 minutes late. My partner spoke to Graeme who dodged all questions and dismissed any accountability, offering for us to leave. My partner was very polite and not causing a scene and only asking why we had been lied to for our table and why there are such delays and poor service or even communication about the delays. absolutely below par, worst service, organisation and management i have ever seen. The food was cold and not even what is listed on the set menu. Disgusting. Will never recommend this place and am following up on a refund which he is also likely to evade so taking legal action as required as close to $600 for a booking that can’t even be upheld...
Read moreWe had the worst experience dining at the Boatshed. It took 20 minutes to take our orders and it was very quiet for a Friday night. I ordered my food and we waited another 30 minutes for entrees which was cold starters and bread. We proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for our mains and decided it was better to leave and just pay for what we ate and drank.
We went up to the front desk and asked if we could pay the bill and cancel our mains and we were told we had to pay for the full meal that we hadn't even eaten. I politely refused the offer and the manager became unreasonable and saying she will have to call her dad (the owner) however she can't because he's old and asleep. Once again I refused to pay 100$ for 2 mains that we didn't eat and said I'm happy to pay for what we ate and I didn't want to cause a scene she started aggressively pushing the touch screen and cancelled our mains. She slammed the reciept on the counter top and said good night.
We then walked to the car and as we were getting in ready to leave a staff member walks out pacing around looking around for what seemed to be us. He then stormed back into the resturant slamming the door and came back out straight after and started walking straight towards us very aggressively like he wanted to fight us. He then gave us the middle finger.
The customer service was so poor I don't think I've ever experienced anything like this in my life. I have previously worked in hospitality so I know how hard it can be but the professionalism was at the lowest I've ever seen trying to force us to pay for food that we didn't even eat and having a staff member coming out to intimidate us because the food and service was terrible is unacceptable.
I will never be returning to the Boatshed I am shocked at the behaviour of the manager and the staff member that came out to intimidate us...
