The ambiance is lively, with the patrons appearing to enjoy the music and food. Given free reign to choose my seating with my date, I choose the back of the restaurant that has plain black seat on one side, and a cushioned long seat on the other with the wooden wall as the backing. The menu appears to have vast choices suitable for all ages and food needs. They also have a side section of which shows what food is marked with gluten free, vegetarian, contains nuts, vegan or dairy free. Business hours are listed as Wednesday to Thursday 5:30-10pm, Friday to Saturday 5:30 to 11pm and Sunday 5pm to 9pm. The drinks menu offers a large section of cocktails, beer and cider, sparkling, rose, white, red, then your regular juices, soft drinks and sweet wines. My first interaction with a server aside from being given choice on where to eat was being offered tap water or sparkling. Once my date arrived, we ordered an entree of prosciutto that was brought out fairly quickly and was, as to be expected delicious. Next we ordered our mains which was 2 of their pizzas, the carnivora and the funghi. They unfortunately weren’t really great pizzas, as they weren’t very hot and the base was soggy and not cooked through. The sauce also left something to be desired. This was a shame as the place seemed to be very popular and packed and has many great reviews, but with the mains being so poorly cooked I doubt we will come back again. Upon paying they asked if everything was alright and they informed me after I told them about the soggy pizzas they would left the chef know, and that was all they did. Due to the ambiance and friendly staff, that was at least worth the 3 out of 5 stars I’m giving them, the food is why they aren’t getting more.

We went on a Friday night a group of people and we did ordered lots of dishes. Frankly we didn’t enjoy the food at all, and I found very much overpriced compared to the delivery of the dishes, how they looked and how they tasted. We got sever by a staff member on their first day and I don’t want to blame them but unfortunately they misunderstood a few things. Although those mistakes, the food still wasn’t tasty nor good as you would expect or thought. The restaurant is located in the heart of South Perth, in proximity of the Esplanade and it does have lots of tables and seating both indoor and outdoor (with blinds). The atmosphere is actually not that bad but the food is letting you down a lot. Pretty much all the pastas didn’t have much taste and the polenta in the ossobuco was way too cheesy losing its natural flavor. Pizza was ok, definitely not one of the best. Even the desserts were quite average. They have a wide range of wine options which was good as we ordered a nice red bottle. But at the end, I wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Automatic Italian on Mends St. is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly set the tone for a delightful dining experience. The food is simply outstanding; each dish bursts with authentic Italian flavors that transport you straight to Italy. And let's talk about the desserts - they are heavenly! From creamy tiramisu to decadent panna cotta, every bite is a taste of perfection. But what truly sets Automatic Italian apart is the impeccable service. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making you feel like a cherished guest from start to finish. And hats off to the chef for his culinary prowess - each dish is crafted with precision and passion, resulting in a dining experience that exceeds expectations. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two or a lively gathering with friends, Automatic Italian is the place to be. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

First time here on a Monday night with family. The wait staff advised they were out of prawns?!? WTH? An Italian Restaurant in South Perth with no prawns? A family member chanced ordering the spaghetti marinara and prawns came with her dish, albeit small prawns, so suspect a miscommunication between wait staff & kitchen staff or perhaps smaller frozen prawns were available but not fresh large king prawns? Other ordered dishes and pizza were salty, bland and gluggy for pasta sauces, so have had better.

There used to be mains options for steaks and lambshanks, but sadly have disappeared from the simpler dinner menu.

Wait staff were attentive and helpful as it was a quiet Monday night, but a few had butter fingers and kept dropping utensils on the floor... inducing a symphony of silverware percussion tunes the whole time we were there. We noticed this during the long wait for our ordered food.

Upvoted 1 star for BYO drinks and no corkage fees but only on Mondays.

Had high hopes for this Mends Street local, but unfortunately found it overpriced & lacking the flavours & quality of other lesser Italian restaurants around Perth.

Mr Walkers a few metres away would be a better alternative if you're prepared to spend over $300 on a nice dinner for a family of 6...

This was supposed to be a special night celebrating. My partner and I only come to this restaurant on special occasions because of how much it means to us. It started off great with the prawns being delicious. It took a turn when they forgot our other entrée (bread). We followed up on this 15 minutes after finishing our prawns. After 45 minutes, we still had not received our mains. We noticed that other tables, who arrived after us, had already been served. We asked the waiter to kindly follow up in the kitchen. Instead of checking, she said it should be another 5 minutes or so, but assured us she would go and check. Despite passing our table, she ignored us and did not follow up.

We decided to give them some grace due to the busyness on a Thursday night. After another 15 minutes, we asked a different waiter to check on our food. It took another 5 minutes for the initial waiter to come back and tell us the kitchen had lost our order ticket. By then, I was in tears from frustration after waiting an hour and a half for a proper meal.

We decided to leave because the atmosphere was ruined. We left hungry and disappointed. Unfortunately, after this experience we don't feel as though we can return to this place that was once a sentimental...
