Chillati Gelato — Restaurant in South West Rocks

Tried the whiskey cream gelato which was good, only the taste was overridden by my overall experience there.

While I was waiting for dinner next door at the outdoor seating, I asked the chillati staff member what time they closed, she told me 9 and said with attitude that it was written outside. I was taken back by the this but decided to ignore it. While having dinner, we saw many people getting gelato and walking away with generous sized gelatos.

After dinner I went back, the same young girl with acrylic nails serviced a woman before me, she smiled, she asked her cash or card and she thanked this customer.

I was next, the girl's face turned sour. She asked me what I wanted, I ordered with thanks, she then scooped an average sized scoop and then slammed the atm machine on the counter. I tapped and walked off.

I was close to saying something to her but I was on holidays, in a good mood and didn't want to ruin that.

There's no comprehensible reason for this girl to treat me the way she did. She definitely wasn't having a bad day as she was friendly and polite to every other customer. Therefore I can only think of 2 reasons: She didn't like tourists/non locals/outsiders; She didn't like asians or asian females.

Neither are a reasonable or rationable rationale. Sadly, not surprisingly either in smaller towns throughout Australia, this isn't the first time I've been subjected to unprovoked rudeness.

Shame I had that experience there, everything and everyone else at South West...

A family favorite destination, we returned to SWR again this year and one of the first things my children ask for is to visit the gelato shop. Children's memories are made from those small but fun things you do at the beach on holidays and obviously the gelato meets those criteria. And I can't think of a yummier way to reinforce those memories. The ice cream/sorbet range is good, and every flavor we tasted we loved! Keep up the good work and hopefully we'll be back...

Beyond friendly owner for starters!! Gelato and sorbet are both 10/10 all homemade herself. Massive variety of great flavours. She saw us sat outside still after our bowls and brought us another sample of green apple which she just put out after we left the first time. We went back in and bought another small cup each. Between two of us we bought 7 flavours and tested 3 extra and all were 10/10. Really wish we lived here to come back regularity so support...
