First time dining at Montezuma after checking another place out and deciding not to dine there. Friends we, were with recommended going here instead. Funky and unusual decor, a little outdated but honestly kind of retro and cool. Got the white peach and lychee sangria - it was awesome. Long Island ice tea was good, and very strong 😜 Friend had a huge strawberry margarita. The portion sizes are HUGE, everyone took a take away pack home because we couldn't finish and I noticed a lot of other people in the restaurant did as well. The food was good, not your usual Mexican but really flavoursome, everything our table tried was good, they did make a mistake on our chicken nacho order but they gave us beef nachos for free anyway and had the chicken one out fairly quickly after. The table service was ordinary, no guidance from the waitress when taking our orders, forgot to ask one person on our table for a drink and just made the ordering experience a little awkward but it was a young girl, so may have just been building her confidence up etc. Overall, would 100% return here again.

Montezumas at Mooloolaba is well established and offers a great menu as well as an extensive drinks list. We easily booked on line for 6pm and requested a booth for 5 of us. There was plenty of room for 6. They also offered tables both inside and out under the covered deck - at the entrance.) I’m glad that we booked at lunch time that day, as we may have missed out on a booth if we hadn’t. The service was outstanding and the restaurant is well decorated with the Mexican theme. The team were well presented, fun, professional, helpful, friendly and kind. The young lady that served us was very impressive with her approach. The menu offers a wide choice of delightful and flavoursome Mexican dishes. We enjoyed dips to share and a main each as well as several jugs of sangria. All were delicious and we came away very full. They catered well for my dairy free and gluten free diet. Montezuma’s Mooloolaba is my favourite Montezumas restaurant. It is well run, is in a fabulous location and offers a brilliant level of service.

Very disappointed with our experience. We were charged two separate 15% public holiday surcharges, which seems like we were charged twice for the same thing no proper explanation given. The lettuce served was wilted and looked old, clearly not fresh. To make things worse, they said they didn't have any forks left to give us. When they finally brought some, both were dirty. Overall, terrible service and hygiene. this was completely unacceptable. Definitely won't be coming back.

The food and overall experience here was absolute garbage!! We were charged just under $150 for slop that I would reconsider feeding to a starving dog.

Both their completely unimaginative slop they call food AND their fit-out has appeared to literally have not changed since I was there last in the mid 90’s.

The service was well below par, and of course our order was stuffed up which was not entirely unexpected to be honest. There were several black hairs in my daughter’s nacho; we asked 3 x times for water to our table before receiving any; we had to ask for an additional missing side; and waited 5 mins at the main counter to pay at the end of our “meal” as three staff walked past us to either go spray one of a number of empty tables outside, or clear another table elsewhere - hmm, priorities?…. Although I must be fair in that those same staff were friendly enough, but really obviously not trained all that well.

It’s just so hard to understand how they could still be in business!!! Especially given the number of other negative reviews I’ve now just read here…. I guess the constant turnover of new visitors in the area helps….

It’s just honestly IMO absolute garbage; and grossly overpriced for the oily, flavorless, uninteresting, diarrhea on a plate they’d served up!!

Is there a way to provide 5 stars in the NEGATIVE?!?! Next time I’ll check reviews perhaps before eating out again as if I did any research I would’ve avoided this place like the plague given the glut of similar 1 star or other negative reviews….

Sorry, no pics of the “food”. Just Google “diarrhea on a plate”...

If I could leave zero stars I would. We should have left before we even ordered as the table was dirty and sticky and no waiting on service as we were just sent to a table and told to order using the QR code. The food arrived on a very hot plate that you couldn't touch however the food was not hot.The refried beans were old and clearly reheated from the day before as we had arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. They were congealed around the edges and burner into the plate. The rice was also reheated as it was dry and crunchy. The food was very disappointing, there is nothing worse than paying for a meal that you know you could have prepared a far better meal at home. My biggest grievance was when it came to payment. The bill came to $90 which was a shock to me as we had only ordered 2 enchiladas and 2 Pepsi drinks but I paid it as I hadn't paid attention to the meal cost when ordering. However on inspection I saw on the bill that I had been charged for another meal that we did not order. I hadn't yet left the restaurant so went back to the cashier to see if they could rectify the mistake. They acknowledged the error and said that they had not cleared a staff meal for our table from the system. They attempted to refund the difference but were unable to without assistance from the owner. They took my details and promised that they would contact me to refund me. It's been almost a week and nothing. Ridiculous that I should have to chase a refund after their error. We will not be returning and will not be recommending this...

We have been hooked on Montezumas for decades. We know what to expect. But unfortunatley the Mooloolaba restaurant has failed to uphold it's franchise quality and expectations. We have tried this restaurant numerous times over last year and this year, but it's not just an isolated case of having a bad day. It has been continously disappointing. The quality of the food has deteriorated and as far as good service goes, there is none. Each time we had to wave staff down to order drinks. Then wave staff down to order a meal. Then wave staff down to order another round of drinks. This was lunch time on a Saturday and our party of 3 were the only ones there. This place used to be full of patrons and always had to make a booking in past years. There is so many opportunities to make this place popular again. Training of staff to provide good service would be the first place to start. Prior to this day, we visited through the week for dinner. There were approx. 5 parties dining there on this night for an early 6.00pm dinner. Unfortunately it was the same old story. I looked around at the other tables and noticed that each table, like ours, had empty glasses. The staff couldn't be bothered to collect empties and ask if we would like another drink. What a wasted revenue opportunity. Again, we had to try and get eye contact with the staff to order another drink. Regretably we cannot possibly dine...
