I came to Angus after hearing a lot of buzz about their sandwiches and wanted to see what the hype was all about. I dropped by on a weekend, so I was fully prepared for the crowds—and yep, it was busy, but not in a stressful way. The vibe was lively, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming right from the moment I walked in. Always a good sign. I ended up ordering the fish sandwich and the Reuben to split and try both. The fish sandwich really surprised me—in the best way. Honestly, it reminded me of a Filet-O-Fish, but way better. Like if the Filet-O-Fish went on a glow-up journey. The fish was crispy and fresh, the sauce was on point, and the bun held everything together without getting soggy. Definitely a standout.

The Reuben was solid too—nice balance of savory and tangy, with a generous amount of meat and just the right amount of sauerkraut. Not overly salty, which I appreciated. Both sandwiches felt thoughtfully made, not just thrown together.

I also ordered their matcha, because I’m a bit of a matcha nerd and like to see how different places do it. This one leaned more on the organic, earthy side—less sweet than most café versions, which I actually liked. It had that natural, slightly grassy taste that real matcha lovers will recognize. If you’re into sugary, dessert-style matcha drinks, this might not be your thing, but if you appreciate the traditional flavour, you’ll probably enjoy it.

The Basque burnt cheesecake was a great way to wrap things up. Super smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness.

Overall, I had a great first experience. The food lived up to the hype, the service was warm, and it felt like a spot I’d come back to—maybe on a weekday next time to...

If you’re coming for the matcha don’t bother, come for the sandwiches though!

Their rhubarb matcha is such a unique flavour combination compared to what is often offered at other cafes, so it was what enticed me to visit Angus. Unfortunately, it fell short. The rhubarb compote was divine but the matcha had no flavour?? It was strange. As my friend pointed out, it oddly had a minty taste and lacked the quintessential grassiness of matcha. My other friend who had a matcha latte also noted a weak matcha flavour in her drink, so I suspect it wasn’t the compote overpowering the matcha.

We had a sandwich each and had no complaints. Focaccia was nice and soft, and the ratio of filling to bread was perfect. I got the tumeric poached chicken and it was well balanced, not overly sauced or skimpy on the veg at all. The fried onions were what called me to it and really did give it that flavour oomph. Friends all enjoyed their sandwiches and finished it all.

Service from the gentleman with the Palestine scarf was excellent. He was honest about the wait time and proficient with everything!

Only complaint is their dish washer!! My friend’s matcha latte originally came with a lipstick stained mug. We notified a staff and she happily replaced it but had I not noticed it, my friend would’ve taken a drink from it already.

Note that wait time is loooong. We came on a Sunday arvo and it was 30mins wait for a table of 4 so keep that in mind. Along with the weekend surcharge of 10% which is common to...

They sell house made juice that they display in ice bucket on the check out counter, not a wise thing to do in Sydney summer i'd say!

Bought a bottle of OJ for the kids to share, our two year old (who's happily take anything handed to him) chug it almost half a bottle, we finally had a sip after a while and found that it was fizzy and off. i handed it back to the barista and ask him to try, after trying he confirmed that it is fizzy and off and then proceeded to take the bottle from me saying "i'll see what i can do", i saw him speaking to the manager and that is the end of it, no apology, nothing, nada! Not even a simple courtesy check!

Another table bought one as well and hand it back straight away. No apology given to them as well.

Mind you the cafe was not hectic, there's probably 4 tables including us.

After all that, there's a few more bottle of OJ sitting in the ice bucket, they didn't even bother to remove them. i mean, it's $8.50/bottle so why the...

Angus feels like it’s set up in a repurposed garage or warehouse — and I absolutely love the vibe! The coffee is top-notch, exactly what you’d expect in the competitive inner west café scene. Their focus is on sandwiches, and we tried the crumbed fish and crumbed chicken fillet. Both were outstanding — freshly crumbed and fried (nothing frozen here), paired perfectly with pickles and veggies. The real star though is the bread. They use focaccia, and while at first glance the bread-to-filling ratio looks a little heavy, once you take a bite it just works. The bread is airy and light yet still has a great bite, balancing everything beautifully. A fantastic spot — simple food done with care and quality.
