Both me & my husband went to have dinner at Bay Tinh ( Marrickville ) on last Thursday ( 21/12/24 ) . We ordered Crispy Pancake with prawn only ( no meat ) & Sweet & Sour Prawn Soup. While ordering, I asked the lady specifically to make sure that Okra & Pineapple were there in the soup & she assured me that it would be there as it's in the menu ( showed me even in the menu ). When The soup came, it had only some very old bad quality halved prawns & NO Okra or Pineapple in it! It was only loaded with bean sprouts. We complained immediately to the owner & he made a lame excuse saying "Okra wasn't available in the market on that day" & when I mentioned about the lady who took that order as she assured it should be in the soup.....then the owner said " Oh, she is the new person who didn't know!" We did take away on the same night two serves of sugarcane prawn & crispy prawn noodles. The vermicelli with sugarcane prawn & salads were completely rotten. For Prawn crispy noodle......the gravy with vegetables was off too. We had to throw away the whole lot!

While making payment my husband mentioned about our experience & dissatisfaction for dinner over there.

We have been going to this restaurant for last nearly 20+ years since the previous owner was there. Always loved their food & hospitality but now can see the standard has gone down like anything esp. since...

My wife & I are "regulars" at Bay Tinh when wanting to eat great Vietnamese food with family-style friendly service. The Cha Gio [Chicken-filled crispy rolls] are a must starter. The classic Banh Xeo [crispy pancake filled with prawns-pork-bean sprouts] is to "die for" but a bit messy to eat. We vary dish options a bit, but recommend the fail-safe Cua Lot [crispy/crunchy battered soft shell crab with tamarind sauce] together with their fabbo Goi Du Du [Papaya Salad- also containing prawns & pork in a 4-fresh fruit-based French Dressing. The supplied accompanying sauces usually come in small dishes so ask for one each as they are good and authentic. We have just returned from a Cambodia-Viet Nam Mekong River cruise and confirm that the food here can save you a trip there. BYOG wine is cheap at $3.50 each person. Finally if you don't want to choose your meal from their exotic & comprehensive menu [see website] they provide some excellent Banquets [$48-$51] & 4 Set 6-course Vietnamese Tapas menus [Vapas] at $42-$48/person. Vegan & Gluten-free options are available and you can get extra chilli if you desire, You will not be disappointed -we haven't eaten any dish there we did'nt like but have obviosly a few personal favorites we eat there. Explore &...

Well I’ve been eating at this restaurant for over 25years and seen 3 management changes. Was present when the original Mr Tinh was in charge. This is truely the most unique, flavoursome and traditional Vietnamese cuisine in the area and I’ve tried them all. You cannot go past the king prawn spring rolls, crispy pancake, rice cakes, beef curry, stuffed calamari or many of the other wonderful dishes. I can confidently say they are the same tasting dishes as per 20years + ago. Anyone that asks me for the best Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville this is always the first I mention as a must try. They also cater extremely well for coeliac and understand what gluten free without cross contamination means, so many other restaurants have absolutely no idea unlike Bay Tinh. Tony and Ann always look after you and treat all customers with the highest level of professionalism and customer service. I have also had many group bookings here and food has been delivered perfectly with everyone blown away with how beautiful and wonderful the food actually is many saying “that was the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever tasted” all I could answer is “well you know why this is my favourite restaurant in Marrickville now”...

We were a hungry party of eight persons and were looking for an authentic vietnamese dining experience! Service level and interaction was great and friendly. However, the food was very average and did not felt authentic! Firstly, we had to ask and was charged for extra vegetables to wrap the spring rolls and pancake with before dipping into the sauce (something that I expected to be the norm and standard way of eating these entrees). The nuoc mam also lacked punch and felt diluted. Main dishes were lacking originality and dull, except for the lotus wrapped rice which was interesting! I doubt we will be back despite the great friendly service and wish them all the best to improve their offerings to be more original! Less Aus viet, more Viet viet 😔. For what we had, food prices were a bit on the high side as well.

We were new to Vietnamese food so had one of the set banquet menus or the “Vapas” (Vietnamese tapas!) as they put it. Our waiter was genuinely thrilled to be helping us on our journey of discovery. The food was simply outstanding- really well balanced and much more delicate than other Asian food we are familiar with. For one course - the “bonfire beef”, because we were new, a waitress came and showed us step by step how to make the rolls from it to our own taste. They really bent over backwards to help us and the bill was, for the quality of good and wine we had, exceptional. Highly recommend this place, great stuff.

Disappointing experience here. I was excited to try this place after a friend told me how popular it was after seeing lines outside. Food wasn’t authentic Vietnamese. Portion size was very small yet expensive. We ordered the prawn sugar cane where it said it comes with 8 pieces. We assumed being a main it would be 8 pieces, but in fact it was 2 pieces cut into 8 smaller pieces. The wraps were also disappointing, they weren’t soaked properly with many parts of it hard. Our group of 4 left hungry and visited another Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville for an additional meal.
