Chebbo's Burgers - A Quality Treat in Marrickville

I recently visited Chebbo's Burgers in Marrickville after hearing a lot of hype about their take on the American-style smash patty. With a few people encouraging me to give it a go and share my opinion, I decided to go in with no expectations— just to keep things fair.

First Impressions

The first thing that stood out was how clean and simple the setup was. The minimalist design created a cozy and welcoming vibe. At the counter, I was greeted by a polite and friendly young lady, who recommended a few options, including the most popular burger, but went with the classic cheeseburger,

I went with the classic, as I believe that if a place can perfect something so simple, it's a good indicator that the rest of the menu will shine too.

The Food

The wait time was short-about five minutes-and though they use a pager system, the same young lady brought the food to my table, which was a thoughtful touch.

The classic cheeseburger delivered:

Meat patty: Crispy-edged, juicy, and perfectly cooked-a real standout. Bun: Soft, fresh, and held everything together beautifully. Pickles and onions: Balanced and generous, adding a classic tangy crunch. Sauce: Just the right amount to complement the burger without overpowering it.

Pricing

At $12 for a single cheeseburger, it’s on the pricier side, but in today’s economy, that’s almost expected for quality food. That said, it’s probably not the most budget-friendly choice for a family outing. Still, for a treat-yourself moment, it’s worth a go.

Final Thoughts

This place gets an enthusiastic five-star rating and is a must-visit for any burger enthusiast in Sydney. ​The core product is fantastic. Every element of the burger—from the perfectly cooked patty to the bun—tastes fresh, delicious, and satisfyingly large. Crucially, the quality you receive makes it excellent value for money. You leave feeling satisfied, not short-changed. The presentation is also top-notch, ensuring your meal looks as good as it tastes. ​Beyond the food, the atmosphere and service really elevate the experience. The store itself is immaculately clean and well-maintained. A small but thoughtful touch that impressed me was the dedicated sink for washing hands before and after eating—perfect for a messy burger! ​The team here is outstanding. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. I want to give a special shout-out to a young girl on the floor (photo attached to my original notes, if posting online) who was particularly attentive. She was fantastic, even recommending certain meal combinations to ensure better efficiency for my order. It’s clear the positive energy is infectious, as even the kitchen staff seemed happy and engaged while assembling the food, which is always a great sign. ​My only minor critique is the drinks: the generic post-mix at $5 is a little expensive compared to the overall excellent value of the food. This place has the 2nd best burgers in Sydney, second only to Robs. Everything has been carefully crafted by the owner: the Menu, colours, branding and the music (although on this last one they get a bit repetitive). If you go, they will not disappoint. My personal favourite is the Classic Burger, but everything on the menu is just as good. And I love that they open until 10pm and that you can add pineapple. The food packaging is really good too!

They are quick to serve great food and always welcome you with a smile. Great staff, great service. I was also impressed by the level of cleanliness of this place which I hope doesn't fade with time. Keeping tables, chairs and floors clean is a simple task many restaurants fail at.

So I only have a few recommendations for improvement for the Chebbo's team:

1. Add a kids option to the Menu. It should be smaller size than the regular burger, and not just on the potato bun. Take a note from Maccas on the Happy Meal concept and you'll make a lot of kids and families happy.
2. Go easy on the salt on the chips. They get overly excited with this and add more than enough; and this is coming from a foodie who loves his salt. But no matter how much you love it, it gets to a point where it's just too much.
3. Open everyday (including Mondays and Tuesdays). Yes, everyone needs to rest but everyone needs to eat too and customer's don't care about your roster. Create shifts, rotating staff or whatever, figure it out, but keep it open.
4. Bacon, yeah, the real stuff. They have beef rasher which is nice, but not the same.
