I felt that I visited Embassy or Gulati's on a day when the chef was particularly inspired. The veg dishes - Dal Makhni, Dal Tadka, Palak Paneer - were just right. The Rogan Josh was superb. The Butter Chicken was not to be scoffed at. We could not get the Galouti Kababs which was a bit of a dampenor. Service was, as advertised, slow. They do warn you about it so we knew what to expect. But it was never inattentive. Sushma made it a point to keep checking up on us and others while her husband Anki was bringing his skills to bear back in the kitchen. You need to get your own drinks. There was a bottle shop just a couple of blocks up the road and we were recommended a pretty decent cab sav which went down very well with the Rogan Josh. The place is ummm compact if I may put it that way. Not garishly done. The food was, surprisingly, moderately spicy. Katoomba is a charming place up in the Blue Mountains and for sure a place we will visit again. As we will Anki's. I do need to taste the...
Read moreThe food was good, service was awful. I'm actually sitting in the restaurant right now writing this review. Today is my 28th birthday and I really wanted Indian food because I just moved to Sydney and missed my mom's cooking. As we walked in an older Indian told us to sit at a table against the wall. She was very stiff and non welcoming; however, we thought that was her personality. As other tables came in we noticed she was nice to them, just extremely rude to us. I asked some questions about the menu and different simosas and she told me that I could of read that on the menu. She also seemed pretty annoyed when I asked about the difference in sizes with the rice. Thankfully the food was delivered by a much nicer waitress named jasmine. I have been in the hospitality industry for 10 years and can't believe an owner would treat their patrons this way. I recommend you not go to this restaurant even if there is a chance you get treated how I just...
Read moreSUPERB.
I was so ill with jetlag and the flu when I got to the Blue Mountains that I just craved a super hot curry to blow the cold out. Looked up on google maps for an Indian and luckily the first place was only open for dinner so I ended up going to Anki's.
Don't worry about the modest appearance - looks aren't everything, especially in this place.
I'm glad I followed the last review's advice - the goat vindaloo IS superb. I asked for hot and they gave me the most amazingly spicy yet TASTEABLE curry I have ever had, usually when I ask for super hot it just ends up killing the flavour completely. Not the case here. The waiter was most helpful and when asked if I wanted naan for me and my partner, I asked how big then went "Oh maybe two then" and was advised not to. Which was the correct advice - the naan was big.
All in all, best Indian ever - even my partner who has rarely ever had Indian was very...
