This whisky blending experience is offered by Archie Rose Distillery in the inner Sydney Suburb of Rosebery.
The Whisky Blending experience is great for everyone, from those not toofond of whisky to the connoisseur. The tour begins with mild formalities, the of signing a waiver which is needed as you are entering an operating distillery.
We then enter the distillery and are given a brief history of whisky and whisky in Australia. We then get onto the grain, an important part of making whisky and one of the many factors that influence flavour. Archie Rose prides itself on quality ingredients and especially grain, we taste a few different grains and have some flavour profiles explained.
From here we move onto the equipment and the whisky making process where the story of Archie Rose is explained. It was kicked of by a 20 year old management consultant looking for a meaningful career. The inspiration came from a passion for whisky. From there, it is a story of trial and error and ultimate success, with the company investing in a 3000sqm operation in the nearby suburb of Banksmeadow. The brand looked to capitalise on its many international accolades to build a global household presence for Australian based spirits.
We are all full of information, then we are provided with a sample of their new make spirit, essentially grain based alcohol, that has spent under 2 years in a barrel. In Australia for this type of spirit to be called whisky it must spend 2 years aging in a wooden barrel.
From here we move to the upstairs section of the Archie Rose bar, where the area is pre set with lazy Susan's topped with 8 glencairns, which are whisky glasses, made especially for whisky and its appreciation. A glass for drinking whisky neat is straight up, with no ice or mixers. 7 of those glencairns contained a range of notable whiskies, all with different flavour profiles. Also on the table were 2 beakers, a dropper and 2 200ml bottles of Archie Rose whisky, as a base to blend with. We are also provided with a refreshing cocktail/palate cleanser made from Archie Rose new make and apple juice.
From here the fun begins, have a smell and a taste of the 7 different whiskies that will be used to blend with the Archie Rose whisky base. Create your own whisky blend by adding different whiskies to taste. At the end you will have 2 200ml bottles of your own blended whisky to take home as a short or long term memento, depending on how well your blends turned out.
A great time was had by all and our guide Jonathan was excellent, plenty of knowledge and a great ambassador for Archie Rose. This experience is perfect for individuals, groups and even as a corporate event. Highly recommended, be sure to book well in advance, these sessions are very popular.

Fantastic experience! You are greeted at the door as you enter, and are taken care of for the duration of your stay. You have the option if sitting at the bar, where you can watch the bartenders sling and mix the drinks, you can sit in the circular booths for bigger parties or the stand along tables that seat 4. We opted for a booth and opened a tab They have a wide selection of Gin, Vodka and Whisky up against the wall, but if you're unsure of what to taste, consider their tasting flights. Some are not listed on the menu and some can be put together for you, just ask a bartender. A little tip is to look at their Instagram page to see potential new flavours or experimental concoctions they might be testing on visitors before they are bottled for sale. I bought bottle of the Cinema Paradiso before official release, and am obsessed. It is a weirdly delicious mix if lemon, chocolate and vodka resulting in a popcorn flavoured drink. Aside from drinks, they serve bar foods. We opted for the charcuterie platter with 3 types of meat, 3 types of cheese and 3 different pickled veg for sour twist. I've heard the cheese toasties were pretty delicious, so they ate next on my list. Occasionally they have a chef who comes in to collaborate and puts together a few dishes to be paired with drinks (check their Insta for more details). Definitely will be coming back!

We met Chris from Archie Rose at a pop-up store in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, that's Sydney 2000 NSW. Archie Rose whiskey and whisky are made from Sydney water and go through a 6 layer hexagon water filtration to produce some very good products. This is a product made in Sydney, is product is a distillery and it's aiming to be making the best in the world. I reckon so far they're well on the way to being the best. Imagine that Sydney Australia with the best whisky in the world. Keep up the good work Chris. Chris wy share more on the video I took Whilst we tested the product. The first sample we tried was more rye influenced and I actually found it too be rather to my liking. It made me feel warm through and was pretty smooth to the point that I'm still savouring it an hour later. The second was more scotch orientated, and had hints of chocolate and honey. The third we tried was like nectar it was awesome, so smooth and gone so quickly. Chris said their cellar door was in Rosebery, Sydney, NSW. Scan the QR code in the photo and that will take you too their shop. Lastly, what a find it was for us, we've been out on a walking tour when the rains came down, and down and down. Once again the rain in Spain fell on the plains of Sydney town...

Came here twice in a day. That rarely happens. Once for an afternoon aperitif, and then again for an in-house experience

Archie Rose has 2 winning strengths, their delightful products and their approachable staff. Both combine to make the overall review extremely positive.

Whilst more renowned for their gins, their selection of in-house produced whiskeys are equally enjoyable . The core range, consisting of the single malt and rye malt is delectable, and their other, select, range (at time of writing: red gum and stringybark) is refreshingly exciting. Their limited range sells out quickly, so if you are eyeing one be sure to snap 1 up if you have any opportunity.

The whiskey mixing session was well thought out and balanced, catering to a mix of whiskey beginners, but having sufficient meat and anecdotes to entertain the aficionados. One gets an opportunity to blend a good selection of 7 + whiskeys with a base blend, and take home 2 bottle of self concocted drink. Throughout the session, the host also promotes and shares the Archie Rose house whiskeys. A blatant advertisement, but one does not refuse a good sample. Overall, not a true, hard-core blend session, but good enough to spend an afternoon on. Price for the experience, then, was 129 AUD, but considering the whiskey available for taste, not extravagant. Indeed, one might treat it as a whiskey flight, which, at that price, is persuasive.

The staff were extremely approachable and friendly. The ones spoken to were knowledgeable, but didn't put on airs, which makes for scintillating conversation, when they are available to chat.

Opening at lunch, the bar gets busy quick, although turnover is relatively rapid. Waiting for a table shouldn't be an issue.

In-house experiences, such as the mixing sessions, tours, or masterclasses, can be booked online. Highly recommended to do so, to secure a slot.

Special shoutout to Jonathan Farrell, who was kind enough to share his experience and comprehensive opinion on the distillers' whiskeys, and Benjamin Wiles, who conducted the entertaining and informative whiskey mixing session.

Overall, the conviction of this review was dependent on the interpersonal experiences with the staff, as well as the product sampled. In neither was Archie Rose found wanting.

Tl;dr: Recommended. Take a jaunt out of the...
