Da Mario has been around for a while now and we had been meaning to check it out, especially after hearing alot of positive feedback. Some friends of ours had just had a baby and this was the perfect excuse to catch up and enjoy a meal at the same time. Da Mario is a large stylish dining space in the up and coming dining precint of Rosebery. There is plenty of indoor seating as well as alfresco dining on the deck. Da Mario serves traditional Italian fare including certified Napolitan style pizza, so you cannot make variations to what is listed. To start off, we tried the crumbed and stuffed olives, which went down a treat. We also ordered the eye fillet beef carpaccio which was thinly sliced and literally melted in your mouth and a minted salad which was fresh and crisp.
Being one who usually steers past risotto, due to underwhelming bad experiences of the past, I was hesitant to try. However, I was excited by the idea of the beetroot risotto, which has returned this dish to favour with me. It looked nice on the plate, it was perfecty cooked and had plenty of flavour. Quite creamy and delicious.
With Da Mario being known for their traditional wood fired pizza, you know we couldn’t resist. The Melanzane pizza was quality, topped with eggplant and smoke mozzarela which simple and tasty with a light pillow like dough. Our friends were pleased with their pizza the magherita con ruchtta e crudo , a margherita with prosciutto and wild rocket. One of our friends had the special which was a steak so there are some meat dishes too. We had a great lunch at Da Mario. The service was great with plenty of character. We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Italian cusine served up, and is on our list of recommended Italian restaurants for...
Read moreIf you're going to read any review on here, make it this one because it is not humanly possible for me to stop myself from telling everybody I know about Da Mario. I feel l'd be doing a disservice now by not telling absolute strangers about this place so it'll be my life's mission to let everyone know about Da Mario. I've been coming here since 2018 and not once ONCE have we had a terrible service, food and atmosphere. They have only ever made us feel welcome and appreciated. We go in big groups (usually) and we order a heap of food which we end up getting to take away. The food is next to none and I genuinely mean that, the pizza is the best l've ever had in any restaurant in Australia. The tiramisu is to die for and my group and I are still on a mission to find the best tiramisu (I have tried Grill Americano) and still did not come close. They have had the same consistency throughout the years and never changed recipes. They honour the "what isn't broke don't fix" by keeping the same menu items which are always prepared to PERFECTION. It's hard to get a photo in because the second the food hits the table, it's gone. Anything under a 5 star rating is someone being meticulous. A tip for take away, chuck the left over pizza in an air fryer and it's almost the same as getting it served at the restaurant, l'm eating mine as I type this review. Reasonably priced, amazing food and great service with exceptional customer service. WOW Da Mario, never change. Love your...
Read moreWhere to begin? I thought I was going to be underwhelmed as "just another pizza place...." but I was pleasantly proven wrong!
The Da Mario Merlot (carafe) with the provola (grilled cheese entree) was a perfect combo (not shown in photos but definitely a must!). Don't skip adding a squeeze of lemon as it will cut through the richness. Then prepare to have a great start for the night of feasting ahead.
We then ordered the ossobuco (special menu), the casarrece al pomodoro (meat-free marinara pasta) and the margherita con bresaola (wagyu pizza).
My god the ossobuco! Perfect! Flavoursome, tender, lovingly prepared for how many hours...generous slices of truffle on top but just enough to enhance the dish, not to overpower it (like some restaurants do).
The pasta wasn't to be outshone, a perfect backdrop against the meaty ossobuco with the sweet/sour flavour of the cherry tomatoes. So much umami going on that it was hard to believe it didn'thave any meat in it...
Last but not least is the wagyu pizza. Thin, marbled slices of wagyu on an oven-baked pizza base, again very generous with the slices.
I would go there just to have the ossobuco with hubby for weekly date nights, or when wanting to impress, take visiting family there.
Highly,...
