Have been a local loyal customer of Arthur’s Pizza Maroubra, ordering a pizza on a weekly basis when working late, and always enjoying the great food. Tonight, for the first time, my husband and I decided to have dinner at the restaurant as we had both finished work a little earlier than usual and wanted to make the most of the beautiful evening. However, the experience with the new manager left us disappointed and shocked by the lack of basic customer service.
We chose to sit outside to enjoy the evening. I went across the road to get a bottle of wine, assuming it was BYO. When I asked the waitress with dark hair for a wine glass, she returned with a cup of ice. Confused, I went inside to clarify and was abruptly told, in a loud, rude, and embarrassing manner, that BYO wasn’t allowed. The tone and attitude were completely unnecessary. While I understand and completely respect this policy—though it could have been mentioned when I asked for a glass—I then asked if I could order a wine instead. She looked me up and down, then turned her back to me in full view of the staff and several customers waiting for their takeaway orders, who had heard the entire conversation. This is no way to treat anyone for no reason at all.
A few minutes later, she came to our table and placed cutlery down without saying a word. My husband then asked if he could order a drink. With her usual rude attitude, she said “inside” and walked off without another word. Her dismissive and condescending manner further ruined the evening.
By this point, her attitude had completely soured what should have been a pleasant experience. When my husband went inside to collect our pizzas (as we no longer wanted to stay and endure such poor treatment), he politely mentioned that the situation could have been handled better. Rather than showing any remorse, she mocked him and acted condescendingly.
As a local customer who rarely leaves reviews, I feel compelled to highlight this experience. I’m not a believer in the saying “the customer is always right,” as I know this is not always the case. However, the level of rudeness and unprofessionalism we experienced was completely unjustified and unacceptable. Management needs to address this issue, as it tarnishes the reputation of what has always been a great local...
Read moreArthur’s pizza is one of those staple Italian joints - your local where you can call up for that Friday night pizza when you can’t be bothered cooking (or on any night really) and you can always guarantee it’s tasty. They’ve been in the business for over 30 years.
Beginning in the 1970’z, they offered alternatives to the regular cheese and tomato options, they soon became popular with their creative flavour combinations. They’ve have continued to grow, and now have stores in a number of locations: Randwick, Paddington and now also Bexley, Maroubra, Glebe and Rosebery.
Arthur’s stores have a family atmosphere and super casual which makes it a comfortable place to socialise. That, in combination with reasonable prices makes for a good eat in or takeaway option.
We visited in a group so were able to sample a variety of things from the menu including entrees, pizza, pasta and salads.
Entree wise we ate the saucy meatballs and garlic prawns - these were cooked and served in thick tomato type sauce so a lot of the flavour was retained.
Pizzas come in different sizes; small, medium, large and family. There’s plenty of flavour combinations, but you can pay a little extra if you want any additions. There’s also Gluten free options.
We had the following pizzas - all really good choices!
Campollo: Chicken Fillet, Semi-Dried Tomato, Red Onion, Camembert, Basil
Sassri: Lamb Fillets, Fetta Cheese, Red Onions, Sweet Potato, Mint
Nitro: Pepperoni, Onions, Capsicum, Bacon, Chilli
In addition, we enjoyed the creamy Bosciola pasta with bacon and mushroom and well as the super flavour some mushroom risotto.
With so many delicious carbs, we needed some salads to balance out or lunch and we tried the Greek salad and also a lovely rocket and Parmesan one too.
By the end of this we were super food but did a great job finishing it off. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, but if you’re not, Nutella pizza or tiramisu...
Read moreFirst off id like to say if you aren't happy with using a knife and fork to eat pizza or are coming out of the area avoid this location.
After an awkward and rude experience ordering food at the counter the lady let us know that we wouldn't be able to sit and dine in without our shirts on (it was a hot summers day) as we understood their rules we respected the restaurant by going back to the car and changing our clothes. After begrudgingly finding a table to sit, the lady had moved us as we were not allowed to choose a 6 seater table and were forced to move to the 4 person seater only even though the restaurant was quite empty and only had a few people eating with many tables open. Once we got the two out of three pizzas after a decent wait we would be told the third pizza would be out shortly, about 20 minutes after finishing our food we asked a staff member where our third pizza had went or if it was even coming at all. The rude lady who first served us at the counter came up to us and told us that she would start making it now. At this point we just wanted to leave and get our money back for the food that never came. She first tried explaining that giving us a refund wouldn't be an option, however we insisted that she gave us back the cash that we were owed, she begrudgingly handed back our cash and thanked us in a very condescending and sarcastic tone. Its a shame as it was our first time coming here and as outsiders of the area we just didn't feel welcome at all at any stage of the entire experience. Very unprofessional would not recommend coming here if you expect any level of decent respectful service. Not sure what the lady's problem with us was but it would've been better if they had just told us they ran out of pizza and denied us...
