We dined here last week on Tuesday evening, and had a party of 8 adults plus 1 child.
The head waitress who received me at the entrance wasn't pleased to serve us, as we had arrived at peak time without a reservation.
At first she told me the restaurant was full but I pointed out there were several empty booths, and that we could split our party into two groups to accommodate. She then found a large table near the bar that could seat all of us, and did warn us that food would come out slow because the restaurant was near capacity, and advised us to book in advance in the future.
During this entire time and when she took our order she did this with a frown on her face. This made us feel unwelcome, as if she was doing us a favour, and that we weren't meant to be there.
When it came to order, we were told to put the food order in all at once as the kitchen was very busy and a couple of us had to order quicker than we would have liked, and in the confusion we ended up ordering one more dish than we wanted to, the falafel which was also not very good.
Later, there was a situation where the table we were sitting at, which was close to the servers area, some of our seats were not making it easy to move back and forth for the wait staff - and this was handled by her by way of ordering those of us sitting in those seats to press up closer against the table - this was very uncomfortable and a bit condescending, grown adults being talked to like bad schoolchildren. We quickly figured out that you could just move the entire table (and thus also the seats) further away from the servers area, resolving this problem.
I first tried to rationalise this, and exercise empathy with it being very busy and the waitress perhaps just having a bad day, but was persuaded by my uncle that there is just no excuse for bad service, and that she had to own this bad attitude, which is unacceptable in this day and age.
It is now almost a week since this 'experience', we have had some time to reflect on it, and not turn this in in the heat of the moment - so I hope whoever reading this can understand we were truly, deeply very...
Read moreit was an experience worth raving about. Nestled in a cozy corner, this gem offers more than just a meal; it's a journey through flavors and textures that leave a lasting impression.
Let's start with the Chicken Schnitzel. The first bite into the perfectly crumbed chicken breast sent my taste buds into a frenzy. Paired with a refreshing coleslaw, a hint of lemon, and the pièce de résistance, the famous crunchy chip & gravy, each element complemented the other, resulting in a symphony of flavors that left me craving more.
Next up was the Kale Me Baby burger, a delightful option for both vegetarians and vegans alike. The smokey kale and quinoa patty, nestled between lettuce and tomato, topped with beetroot relish and pickle capsicum, offered a burst of freshness with every bite. It was a testament to the chef's creativity and dedication to crafting dishes that cater to diverse palates.
For those seeking a healthier yet equally satisfying option, the Falafel Bowl is a must-try. Packed with falafel, spiced pumpkin, hummus, rocket, feta, beetroot, pickled cabbage, pico, pickled cauliflower, and drizzled with tahini yogurt, all served with toasted flatbread, this bowl is a flavor explosion. Each ingredient adds depth and complexity, resulting in a harmonious blend of Mediterranean-inspired goodness.
What sets apart is not just the quality of its dishes but also its commitment to providing value for money. Despite the upscale ambiance and impeccable service, the prices are reasonable, making it accessible to all food lovers seeking a memorable dining experience.
From the warm ambiance to the delectable dishes, every aspect surpassed my expectations. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, or vegan, there's something for everyone on the menu. I highly recommend paying a visit and indulging in their culinary delights. Trust me; you won't be...
Read moreIt was my first visit to Aunty Ed's and unfortunately will be my last too. Here is a recap of my experience: It took a while before we were attended to for a seat. Nevertheless, the wait staff was pleasant and did get us a table. Another wait staff took our order and recommended the beef brisket as 1 of our order options. Unfortunately, this turned out to be quite an unpleasant dish. The brisket had hardly any sauce & was very stringy and dry. When I enquired if I could get more sauce as there wasnt much to begin with, I was informed that they ran out of the brisket sauce. Gravy was an option provided, but it was lumpy and had an unpleasant chemical like smell. I had to chow down the remainder of the very dry beef brisket to not be hungry. It took 3 tries to get table water. The 3rd try was only successful when I requested from the first wait staff who seated us. The mulled wine was on the sweeter side and while pleasant as an after dinner drink, it would have been better as less sweet with more spices to create more depth of flavour. Also heard another patron whose order didnt arrive after waiting an hour and upon checking the ordering system, it seemed that the order wasn't put in. The wait staff expressed being stressed & busy.
It would be unfair to not express some positives I saw. They were: Decor and ambience for the place were pleasant. It was tastefully decorated & had a good colour scheme blend. The Big Barra was pretty good. The Salsa Verde complemented the fish. The fish was beautifully cooked. Miles apart from the beef brisket. They accept cash or card for payment. But do note that they do have a surcharge for card payments.
These positive points were the salvaging points of rating this place a 2...
