Badmanner — Restaurant in Sydney

I usually have a good experience with this cafe. I go once a week.

I had laksa last week. I told my friend who is laksa freak to try Badmanner Cafe's (BC) and let me know what she thinks.

I texted BC in the morning that I'm ordering 2 laksa and will pick up before they close as we are having it for dinner. Before leaving, I texted for them to separate the ingredients ie noodles etx from the soup base. I'm happy to pay extra for the containers as we are having itnfor dinner.

When I arrived the laksa was all in one container. I said please separate them and I'm willing to pay extra for the container as the hot soup base will be absorbed by the noodles and over cook the ingredients.

Nice nice man did so. But the soup is 1cm. I said laksa is a soup. How come it looks like a sauce? Picture attached.

He said he tipped the soup and that's all there is. I said exactly why I asked to separate as it will become noodle order not soup.

He filled one container but refused to fill in the other separate container as he said we can share one despite me paying and ordering for two. :(

Very disappointing :( We've been to Badmanner Thymes a few times, but this will be our last.

The coffee was fantastic (compliments to the barista), however the food has taken a turn for the worst. We were hoping to have the French toast, which was really good last time we dined, but unfortunately it has been taken off the menu.

We settled for the pumpkin sweet potato sweetcorn fritters and the pancakes. What a mistake. The fritters were beautifully presented but were lacking in any discernible flavour and had a disturbing mushy consistency. I think it would have been better if the bread was toasted a bit longer. The saving grace was the poached egg which was expertly cooked.

The pancakes were not any better. They were quite dry and bland and complemented by both fresh strawberries and what appeared to be frozen microwaved berries (including frozen strawberries). Why any establishment would think it's appropriate to serve customer frozen berries is beyond me.

Unless you want to be disappointed avoid this place. Head to Circa instead for an amazing and consistent experience, or even Paper Planes which is just...

Hands down the BEST Spanish baked eggs I’ve ever had. My husband and his friends have been regulars at this cafe for years now. I never understood why they overlook every other well-acclaimed cafe and choose to stay loyal to Bad Manner. Last week, we were talking about good breakfasts around Sydney and my husband insisted I come along with him and try the Spanish baked eggs. I now understand why he comes here. Absolutely delicious.
