This sweet little cafe is on the Wilson Street bike track as you come into Newtown from Chippendale and Redfern. It's on a corner spot and is dinky, with a nice use of space. I only had a coffee, and I drink a lot of coffee , and saw some reviews here knocking the coffee. The coffee is very good and ( other reviewers) do not know what they are talking about. What is worse a wine snob or a coffee snob? Probably the latter.

Read moreIn the ocean of cafes that is Newtown, Beantown is a family-run gem that doesn't try to be anything that it isn't. The coffee is consistently good and the service is always friendly.
The limited menu of toasties and rolls is tasty and reasonably priced, I would recommend the grilled chicken and avo. Some items can be a little oily but this doesn't bother me.
The space feels cosy and the lack of music makes it a very pleasant place to enjoy coffee, read or get some work done. It's also one of the only cafes in Newtown that stay open late.

It wasn't clear whether it's table service or pay at counter so we sat there waiting while the wait staff stood behind the counter looking at us. We finally approach them to order then waited 45 minutes for our food. We were one of 4 tables and there was a lot of cooking type noises coming from the kitchen but a trickle of meals coming out. Three other tables complained about the wait and there was no apology or recognition of any issue.
