Horrible service, ruined our New Year’s Day family lunch :(
1/5 rating for staff, 4/5 for food
Made a reservation for 2pm three days prior in the patio area (as we have a dog). They call me at 1:22pm on the day of booking saying kitchen closes at 2pm and very rudely said we need to get there at 1:30pm the latest otherwise we won’t be served anything. What restaurant gives an 8 minute notice?
Got there a few minutes before 2pm and waited but staff kept ignoring me until I eventually caught someone’s attention and said I have a reservation. The lady rolled her eyes as she turned her back against me and completely ignored what I said. I was in shock. Eventually she said “we don’t have tables outside”. I wonder how that happened as I had a confirmed booking. She and the other staff were scrambling around and sounded like they were blaming each other (I couldn’t make out their words) but they were very unprofessional and handled the situation poorly. My family and I felt very awkward just sitting in the corner wondering if we should just go elsewhere.
We eventually got seated and were served food. Later I realised there were other people who came in just after 2pm and were still able to order food. Weird why they initially turned us down but they served other people…
The food was great but we never got an apology and felt uncomfortable and not welcome at all. We won’t be going back which is a shame because the food was actually quite nice.
A feedback for the owner - great service and friendly/approachable staff goes a long way and will definitely help business longevity so suggest the staff get proper training on simple things...
Read moreSuch a gorgeous homely restaurant with great area of outdoor seating, ideal for those with dogs, eating indoors COVID concerns etc. Everything is constantly sanitised and you could easily eat here without ever having to go inside. Staff are very attentive. MENU: Great selection of salads, entrees, beef, chicken, salmon, fish and desserts etc. They are very accommodating of dietary requirements ,(vegan, vegetarian, low FODMAP, Histamine, gluten free etc) and kindly made up gf garlic bread for me. STAFF: The waitress was lovely, checking in to see how are meals were, you could tell she clearly had a passion for her job and we were lucky enough to meet the owner who was also super friendly, attentive and flexible with requirements. AREA: Lower North shore leafy area, with gorgeous trees surrounding the eating spaces. INTERIOR: Super plush, homely and inviting. They have an incredibly large selection of books. It's the type of place you could go to and read in all day! Restaurant would easily fit large groups 30+ people and has impeccable interior design. ACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair and pram accessibility. With Street parking available in the area (we got a park right outside!) Their bookshelf tree is incredible and well worth the look if you're in the area, the owner even let us know that they're doing a guessing comp. at the moment on the amount of books in it. Highly recommend and will definitely be back time and time again. Had been several times many years ago and it's great to see their premises have grown even more. Simply lovely. TIP: They also do late night coffee which is...
Read moreWhat a fabulous little cafe in such a hidden gem of a suburb. We stayed at McMahon’s Point for the Sydney marathon, and had breakfast here the day after. We certainly had lots of calories owing, so we were well and truly hungry. Being a Monday morning, it was relatively quiet, service was exceptional which you would expect on a Monday and food was excellent. I had a cappuccino, my partner had an oat cap and a friend had a pot of tea. All very good. I had the morning roll for breakfast, which differed from your standard bacon and egg roll by having a poached egg, much less messy than a fried egg. This was very tasty. My partner had the vege breakfast, which she thoroughly enjoyed and our friend had the scrambled eggs and bacon which was also excellent. Overall, we very much enjoyed eating here and would definitely come again.
While we ate outside, the inside is very beautiful, with lots of books and seating available - the perfect place to escape if it was cold or wet outside. We were also super wowed by McMahon’s Point, such an unspoilt suburb so close to the city, it only took me 6 minutes by ferry from Circular Quay. Highly recommend both this cafe and McMahon's Point...
