Service: Service was good for the how filled the restaurant was, Attentive a little Forward and assuming but that feels to be the vibe here at Chedi Thai,
With a moderate size seating plan and a lot of two seated tables right by the window it brought back the memories of Eating in Europe, a bit more towards the high end style but not so high end that you become intimidated.
We ordered betel leaf Prawns as a snack that came in 4 pieces.
At first Glance I was super excited, we were blown away by the detail of flavour that being sweet, Salty and Acidic but very underwhelmed that between all four snacks maybe would’ve been one single prawn cut in four pieces, there was more texture than anything there,
It had potential to be really Outstanding but fell towards the stingy side.
The owner explained that there mains were authentic Thai and that it is more salty flavour profiles over sweet and that Thai restaurants that aren’t super authentic make sweet Thai food because westerners like it.
The Mains were Red Curry Crispy Pork Belly and Green beans with Snow peas and Broccoli , With lime leaf flavour or some sort of kaffir lime flavour profile.
The other main was your classic Pad see ew but we chose Chicken instead of Beef,
The low down: Excellent Cooking Skill and Great cooking of vegetables and Good Thai food that isn’t Oily.
The downfall: Flavour is pre determined and set out for a particular type of palate, Unbalanced flavours which leaves Salty as the dominant Flavour.
This probably doesn’t matter so much for Your Average Joe but Chefs with a developed palate would probably agree that at bare minimum put some lime wedge on the plate so the diner can have some control over balancing the flavours,
from a perspective of food the fattier the protein The more acidity will cut through the fat lifting the flavour to an unmatched taste given that there is some base sweetness in their as well,
To close I would say restaurants that refuse to adapt and want to stay “Authentic” in flavour close their doors to what actually works best to generally get better reviews and more positivity when it comes to food, similar to Italian restaurants that stay traditional but don’t keep up with what the clientele actually like.
Overall some Great things in the food and some not so great things, we got a dessert that was pretty good but were only given one spoon.

Read moreI love Thai food and they did it well. Duck, crepe's pad-Thai of course, pork belly, the Thai salads - all delicious. The owner was a charming guy who had a genuine smile on his face. The two male servers I had interaction were cut from the same cloth. Prices were very good.
I was only staying in the area for 5 days. I went there for lunch on my first day and ended up going there for another lunch, and dinner with friends and also bought take-away one night.
The decor is basic but clean. Tables were intimate enough that I'd be happy to take a date there. A great after dinner walk is almost straight down the hill to Sydney Harbour and a great view of the bridge and Opera House at night. A choice of two ferry stops in walking distance. Getting back up the hill might be a problem depending how much you eat. You could always have a romantic ferry ride to Circular Quay, then catch the train back to North Sydney which puts you back at the top of the hill. :)
Acoustics weren't great. I had a bit of trouble hearing the conversation. Maybe there is something that can be done to dampen the noise. Though this is a common problem with small...
Read moreDelicious food, amazing service. Our first time here tonight and first impressions were, great customer service when we walked in. Very friendly owner (Greg) and let us sit where we wanted in the restaurant. The waiter (whom we found out later was the son Liam), was also very friendly and made us feel welcome. We ordered Spicy noodles with pork belly and Pad Thai beef with an entree of dumplings with ginger and prawns. Mains were so delicious and also very generous size. We topped off the meal with Coconut ice cream as suggested by Liam and that was the “icing on the cake” to a great night out. The ambience and atmosphere in this place is great and the music volume is just right (not overpowering). There are many customers who come here and we now know why. You won’t regret coming here. Great food, amazing service and great...
