BANH MI in the CBD is a unicorn in the sense that it is the every-person food – the working class staple that has also become so kitsch to newer, more adventurous diners that both its cultural equity and therefore, literal economy has been scaled up. This is common trend with exotification of ethnic cuisines but I digress— /we’re here to talk about some damn good Vietnamese sandwich rolls/.
The underpass leading to the famous Centeal Station railway tunnel in Sydney has played home to the most random assortment of grab-and-go eateries, pop up shops, chemists and newsagents. Classic fare for retail proximus to interchange transport spaces. When Blossom popped up it was quite simply the cooler and Bain Marie display with a small a frame sign, rushed in to fill out a space that was once a Thai takeaway, that was then a viral sandwich shop and something-something before that.
The good news? It looks like Blossom is here to stay. With a ripper BM for under $10… in the Sydney CBD, and a young family cranking things out which appear to be all their own recipes and makings, it’s like the ‘burbs came to the right part of the city where it integrates seamlessly. That area churns hustle and bustle workers, labourers and university students where cheap yet delicious and easy takeaway eats is the most desirable.
Their array doesn’t skimp on any of the deluxe options you’d find out in the Styx and in fact has variants on fan favourites such as BBQ pork (two ways : “Vietnamese” or “Chinese” style) , marinated chicken and cold cuts classic style * 2.
The veggies are all pickled and have a lovely and distinct crunch denoting a quicker/fresher pickling, and the pate is buttery smooth and not over powering if you prefer your chicken livers with less funk and simpler seasoning.
Finally, customisation is a go! That’s double proteins and also, cash is deity level for marginal discounts and major love. BR&E ~ my favourite Banh Mi and casual Vietnamese eatery in the...
Read moreVery good roast pork rolls, but still could use a few improvements.
Bread could be flakier, fresher/warmer, although size and moistness is good. Doesn’t dry your mouth when you eat.
Roast pork is nice and crispy even when taken out and eaten 30mins after, but could be more tender/softer as there are 1or 2 bites that are a little chewy.
Could use some scallion oil.
The people there are so nice, helped me locate them as the stairs to the tunnels are closed off. Small business, quick service, family run.
Overall good experience will definitely visit again. Better than big name banh mi places. Let’s support them so they could get...
Read moreSorry for this review but I need to say it. Everytime I walked by, the smell is so strong that I cannot even think of trying it.
I don't know if it's something with the ingredients or quemicals or I'm sensitive to that smell but the whole tunnel is impregnated by it and it's just too strong from early morning until late
Haven't tried the food so I'm commenting on it but just the smell is quite off putting.
Hope there's something that can be done and more than happy to change this review if that's the case.
PS: I would avoid going through there but it's literally the way to...
