Buddy's Bar Newtown — Restaurant in Sydney

Honestly, if you’re in Sydney and you don’t check out Buddy’s Bar in Newtown, you’re missing out. This place just hits different ; it’s got a soul, proper authenticity, and that’s 100% down to the team and the two legends running it, Jimmy and Duncan. The staff? Absolute gems. Super nice, super attentive, and they come from all over the world, which makes you feel instantly welcome. And believe me, coming from Paris, I know when a place is nailing hospitality.

The vibe is always on point: live bands during the week, DJs on the weekend, and it’s not just some random setup ; they’ve got a real concert room, designed by sound engineers, so the sound is insane. Plus, there’s an actual booker curating the lineup, so the acts are always pro and worth checking out.

And then there’s the food : way above what you’d expect from a bar. The chef is clearly putting effort into it, and it shows. Tasty, proper dishes with real flavour.

If I had to pick just one spot in Sydney to grab a drink, meet people, party, and actually feel at home, it’d be Buddy’s Bar....

Sad seeing so many people 1 star reviewing a bar they’ve never been to because a meme page told them to. God forbid someone try something different in Australia..

Buddy’s is a huge vibe run by two of the friendliest blokes you’ll ever come across. The concept is unique to Aus and works incredibly well, their staff are all super helpful and there to tell you about the drinks on offer and generally keep the mood high (and assist with pouring if you’re a bad beer pourer like me). They have a great range of different beers, wines and cocktails on offer and are constantly cycling through various options so there’s something fresh each time you pop in.

It’s an excellently executed concept and one of the best weekend party spots in Sydney. I encourage anyone who hasn’t already been to drop in, say hi to Duncan and Jim and see what Buddy’s is all about. You...

Such a great concept!

Hosted my partner's birthday event in the private space upstairs and couldn't have been any better. We have had a couple of events at different bars and venues, but we must say that their venue space held everyone so comfortably. There was our own private taps, speakers and plenty of seating (even little booth seating as well!)

The staff that night were also super helpful and did such an amazing job looking after us. They were on top of everything from keeping the glasses full to ensuring the space was kept well throughout the night. The owners Jimmy & Duncs were always nearby as well to make sure we were having the best time.

All the guests we had also had such high praise for not only space, but the self-serve concept itself!

Thanks again Buddys! Can't wait to celebrate again...
