Cool Mac — Restaurant in Sydney

Food was good but overall very packed, hot and lacklustre service. Wanted it to be good but unless you were sitting in front of the one fan in the place it was stifling. After trying to order multiple things from the "all day" menu at 11:30am on a Sunday and each time having the waitress come back after the order was placed and say they had run out of 3 different things on the menu it turned into a bit of a joke. If you have run out of things then be aware of this and tell people before or when they're ordering. Food is brought to the table with no cutlery, napkins or anything so I guess you just have to work out where the cutlery is as you're not told. The self serve water in a tiny cooler basically sitting on the floor in the corner with the push tap that wont stop running, an ice cream container to catch the overflow and the world's smallest cups was the icing on the cake. Make people squat in the corner to get water!? Take some pride in your establishment and either get a proper water cooler or have chilled bottles of tap water you can put on tables for customers. The food here was amazing! Wow. We loved everything we ordered, it’s very unique flavours though so be cautious, as it may not be what you like, but I do think most people would love it! The only reason I couldn’t give this place a 5 star was because of service.. We asked if they could cut the burger and toast in half so we could share, they refused and said “we don’t offer that service”. Now this irks me… the “service” is bringing a knife to a burger and slicing it.. if you want to keep customers happy and wanting to come back, it’s a very small ask from someone, why not just do it? It’s ridiculous when cafes say this, and it instantly makes me want to get up and leave. Luckily, I had waited long enough for a seat so I just stayed and tbh I didn’t regret it after tasting the food. The service also started getting better toward the end, but the rejection of a simple request had already turned us off. Overall though, I would give these guys another...

A Japanese inspired cafe in the what of Kirribilli, I've visited Cool Mac several times and the quality of the food is pretty consistent. I've also supported their sister venues as I like their concept. Food wise, I generally recommend their Mentaiko Toast, however recently I found that it has been a bit overpowering in flavour - like the ratio to the toast is a bit off. However, the general flavour profile is good. The egg roll and onigiri set was also not bad (even though the onigiri was a bit bland, the side dishes and soup made up for it). If you order these, make sure you eat it whilst it's hot, as it cools down quite quickly during the cold season. Service was prompt and staff is always friendly.
