This church and its leaders have definitely grown in spirit and maturity over the years...these days sermons have improved hugely and become more meaty introducing teaching on previously never mentioned things from the bible, in this way it is no longer just a new believers church as it has been famously known as for a long time. The 7pm service is vibrant and almost charismatic which is unusual for an Anglican church in this part of Sydney.
One thing this church needs to improve on is being a good witness of Christ in the way it treats people...basic courtesy and respect should be extended in the simple things eg answering emails, calls and requests at some point, if not in a reasonably timely fashion - otherwise it says very loudly "we don't care aboutĀ or value you" and our words are empty and thus credibility especially of leaders and staff takes a hit. Congregations are strong when they can trust and follow their leaders and know that they are cared for as individuals and not just viewed as another bum on a seat or wallet for the coffers.
It can be hard to find real connection, sincerity and authenticity in the congregation here. There is alot of self consciousness and pride with reputations and status on the line. You will fit in better if you come from a wealthy/educated professional/privileged background as this is most of the congregation and local demographic.
This church has a very strong emphasis on worksĀ eg there is a culture that one must earn their stripes and satisfy certain conditions for entry like length of attendance and service to be welcome and included. People then totally forget the concept of God's grace and peopleĀ burnĀ themselves out from so much striving and trying to meet expectations. It is not edifying if it seems like you are surrounded by weary worn out exhausted people just going through the motions of duty and obligation driven religiosity.
Finally the church congregation needs to remember it is part of a far wider community of believers around the world and not get stuck within its own exclusive walls, own ways and own people thinking of themselves as some sporting team in opposition to others, rather recognise they are part of a large family of brothers and sisters all working together as part of the...
