Happy Australia Day 2021 đŠđșđŠđ Today we wanted to celebrate Australia Day, so we decided to head to the Star Hotel. Sokyo was closed! We were so disappointed as they posted photos on their Instagram account this morning, so we assumed it was open! But it wasnât! So we decided to head to the Harvest Buffet and that was also closed! So we found this Italian restaurant which was the last resort! We walked in, covid checked in and ordered our food. I ordered the King fish crudo with raspberry dressing, it was super fresh and delicious! I also ordered the Linguine w/ Mussel, prawn, market fish, calamari, white wine. It was a little bland, but the seafood was cooked to perfection. The mussels were so soft and flavourful. The cocktails arrived a little late after the food. The service was great but when we asked the waiter for our cocktails, he didnât go and check the waiting time, which he should have. But other then that, the service was friendly, not rude in any way. The cocktails were delicious and refreshing. We ordered the pineapple cocktail, I canât recall the name of the cocktail, but you will see my photos under my review. In total, we paid $142.60 ($18 surcharge due to public holidays) Oh, my friend ordered the bread as the entrĂ©e, she said she tasted like naan bread. Overall we were happier with the atmosphere and ambience. It was not too busy due to the COVID-19 restrictions. I would recommend this place. My entrĂ©e and cocktail was the highlight of the day. Check out my photos đ Oh forgot to mention, the coffee were also amazing! I ordered my usual, double shot soy latte, super hot and bitter đ Located in the Star Casino (Ground floor) you can catch a tram from Central train station or walk from Central train station or town hall. Shouldnât take longer then 20 minutes.

We dined at Cucina Porto last night. The staff were friendly and upbeat which created a nice experience. The atmosphere was good although would prefer a little more lighting as the table was quite dark and it made it difficult to see the delicious food we were about to devour. Entrees: Stone baked bread - served like a cloud of fluffiness. Puffed flat bread topped with what seemed to be garlic granules and a delicious olive tapenade. Cherry tomatoes - tossed in spicy pork & fennel sausage juices. Bursting with sweetness, the sweet cherry tomatoes paired perfectly with the spicy kick of the pork and fennel sausage flavour. Ham - Smokey and sliced thinly to perfection, pairing perfectly with the cherry tomato entree and stone baked bread with olive tapenade. Mains: Schiaffoni al Ragu - fresh thick sliced pasta cooked al dente, rich beef and pork ragu flavoured with plenty of herbs, topped with Parmesan cheese. The only thing we would have liked more of was the Aged Parmesan, maybe shaved parmesan on-top instead of finely grated would suit this dish better. Crudaiola Pizza - fresh wood fired pizza base with a subtle tomato base, topped with lots of thinly sliced Parma Prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, rocket and stracciatella cheese. This by far was one of the top pizzas I have ever eaten. The flavour combinations dance on the palate leaving us wanting more. Definitely the star of the show right beside the tomatoes and ham. We will definitely return to this restaurant we had an overall great experience.

I have to admit I had high expectations for an Italian restaurant at The Star, as you have to put a card down for a reservation and a 50 dollar cancelation fee per person but for me and my mum it was a just a good experience. It was packed for having just opened at 5, and we arrived and were sat by 5:20. We immediately ordered with a busy waitress who was very patient and efficient. We ordered two pasta dishes, the porcini mushroom ravioli and the ragu, the rosemary bread entree and the side of green beans with two limoncello spritz. This all came together, which surprised me as I at least thought we would get the bread first. The ravioli was beautifully plated, generous in portion and cooked to aldente but needed salt, the green beans were perfectly salted with almonds, the bread was so soft and perfect in balsamic and oil. But the lamb ragu pasta, which tasted like rosemary, had almost no lamb in it and the portion was a small. There was little parmesan on it or any presentation. Our mains came within 6ish minutes, before even our cocktails, it felt very rushed. It was a very busy Sunday night, and as we were seated near the bar we could hear one of the waitresses yelling 'Service!' throughout dinner for the amassing cocktails. I work in hospo, and have never had to yell that during a busy dinner shift when you have at least 8-10 floorstaff, there is a bell for a reason but I get it if its busy. It kinda ruined the atmosphere though. I probably wouldn't return especially after reading all the other reviews that have similar experiences. Also did not agree with the lack of a 'no tip' option when paying card and the fact that 10% is the lowest option. There wasn't much service other than the waitress taking our order, no one checked back with us on our food.

Eat drink and be merry! Italian restaurant Cucina Porto @ The Star is the new kid on the block. A modern Italian restaurant with ambience, delicious food and friendly service. We booked a table for 2 at 9:30pm and were promptly escorted to our table once we arrived. We ordered Oysters (fresh!), kingfish sashimi(my better half didnât like the compote sauce.. but I thought it was a bold and daring and something different to a plain vinaigrette), Crumbed Veal (tender and juicy), king Prawns (3 prawns... so you can make room for dessert), Pepperoni Pizza (light and delicious just as youâll find in Italy. Less is more) and Tiramisu and The Pear for dessert. Yes we ate and ate and ate.. but the great thing was we did not feel the food was heavy on the stomach! The service did have some teething problems (as this is a newly opened restaurant). Yet we were made to feel like regulars visiting our regular haunt. Special shoutout to Florian (he looks a little like Paul Walker from Fast and Furious!) very friendly and attentive to our requests. Well worth a visit if youâre craving Italian. âThe dream is to have it all. Who says you canât have your cake and eat it too? Live this life, that life, this life, you know? You only live one time â I want to get it all in.â - Paul Walker

TLDR: Great food and service. Pair your main with an appetiser or desert. *random plug, Stone baked bread* This was our first time/impression of Cucina Porto. The restaurant from what we've been told, had only been open a few weeks. What was had. Aperitivo - Stone baked bread (olive tapenade was yum, top on top of the warm bread....) Antipasti - Baked eggplant Pasta - Schiaffoni and Gnochetti Dolco - Tiramisu Service: 5/5 Highlights. Greeted at the door by wait staff on their return route to the kitchen/bar and initiated the interaction on our behalf with the restaurant host. Staff were aware of menu items and drink list when asked. Staff checked in with us regularly, and were responsive to feedback. Affordability: 5/5 Cost - accessible, given location and quality (see food) Portion - reasonable, see pictures. Top your main with an appetiser or desert to reach full satisfaction. Food: 5/5 Quality - Great (confirmed at the end of our meal by overhearing a pair of diners nearby echoe our unspoken thoughts.) Taste - Delicious Menu: 5/5 Range: good range. Quantity: just right.

Amazing! Fantastic Italian dishes, served fresh and in a beautiful atmosphere. Pasta was perfect - Al Dente! Good sized portions and reasonably priced for the food and location. Dishes are not too big, good enough to fill you up for a lighter lunch or dinner. Perfect size to be complimented with bread/salad sides, or entree and or dessert. Service was really good and the head chef really knows what he is doing. You can tell he cares and takes pride in his food. This is experienced in every mouthful. Most of the staff are not Italian but the waitstaff do a great job with their service and the chefs with their cooking. Most importantly, the head chef is Italian and oversees everything. He appears to be in great control of the kitchen, what is served and how it is prepared and goes out to customers. This provides consistency and great food everytime. Great wine selection, amazing Italian wines as well as other beverages. Coffee and espresso is strong, well made and perfecto! House bread and Olive Tepanade is incredible and highly recommended!
