Our accommodations were in the area, but we wanted to venture out for Australian classics—fish and chips and maybe a meat pie. Off on a quiet corner, sits a little quaint place, a hotel and rooftop bar—we decided to give it a go. A security guard greeted us at the door, which seemed unusual for a Monday night. Nearby, there was a wall covered with prohibited behaviors that hinted at a lively weekend crowd, but on this night, the place had a chill, family-friendly vibe. We headed to the second floor, where a energetic and kind bartender poured drinks quickly and took our orders. The summer seltzer was a treat. No meat pie was not on the menu, and I didn't ask, opting for the fish & chips. We received a number, found our table and waited. About 10-15 minutes later, our meals arrived and I realized, I may have never really experienced fish & chips before. The golden brown, beer-batterd fish looked amazing and tasted even better. The crunch was audible with chunks of flaky, juicy cod with every bite. By far, this it was one of the best versions of this dish I have ever had. The fries were crispy but meh and lacked flavor. A fresh salad made up for the missing underwhelming chips. The space was laid-back and inclusive. Families enjoyed meals while toddlers explored, and guys played pool over beers. Despite the signs and security, the vibe felt safe and welcoming. Overall, PBH earns a solid 4 out of 5. The drinks and fish were a hit, though the fries fell short. If you visit, expect a relaxed atmosphere on weekdays—and maybe a wilder crowd on the weekend!

This was the greatest find of our Sydney adventure, completely unexpected. I’ve gotta say that just walking past, we wouldn’t have gone in. And my wife questioned my venue choice before we did. But I had purchased tickets to a live music gig and I was hell-bent on going. So we enter after the 3rd degree of inquisition around our tickets and the day unfurled into a tapestry of good food, good drinks and amazing music. There were two acts on for the afternoon. First up was Matt Ross, an acoustic folk story teller. He had sublime phrasing and all the time in world. The second act were jazz/blues trio featuring Ray Beadle, Clay Doley and Andrew Dickeson. The were amazing… where else on a Saturday afternoon can one go to hear 4 of Australia’s finest musicians for $11.00? The atmosphere was fantastic, mutual respect and music centered. Everyone wanted to say “G’Day” it was awesome. I’d highly recommend snagging this venue on another ticketed gig day and never judge a book by its cover.

Had a quick bite at this pub for dinner. We had the beef burger and the 1kg wings with franks hot sauce & blue cheese and BBQ sauce. Until i went to the counter myself to ask for the blue cheese, it was only then they told me there was no blue cheese available which was a disappointment as they could have told us when we were ordering. The burger patty was cooked medium rare and was great, however the burger was lacking in filling as it was mostly just slaw and sauce. The wings were pretty nice too, i think i liked the BBQ flavour more as it had a better flavour than Franks hot sauce that wasn't spicy for me. The meat was tender though, however we aren't sure if we actually got 1k wings, felt like we got less than that.

I was keen to watch a live football (soccer) match which started at 6:45am local time. I spent a lot of time searching online to find a 24 hour bar that would be showing the game before eventually finding this bar which advertised itself as a 24 hour bar and even listed the game I wanted to watch on the Sports Schedule page of the website. After getting up at 6:00am and walking the 30 minutes to the bar, upon entering I saw all the chairs stacked on the bar. I asked the staff member behind the bar if they were open to which he replied that they weren't and that they didn't open until 10:00am. His tone was rude and patronising. I asked why there was a flashing sign outside advertising the bar to be open 24 hours. "I dunno, but we're not open", was the response. I protested that their website also advertised the bar to be 24 hours and again I was offered no explanation, he only repeated that they were closed. At this point another member of staff approached, repeating that they were closed. I again drew their attention to both the flashing sign outside and website advertising the bar as being open 24 hours and also pointed out that they have a Sports Schedule claiming to be screening several football matches kicking off at 6:45am, which was the reason I was here. The second member of staff was equally rude and unapologetic; "We don't have a license to be open 24 hours". I asked why they advertised themselves being open 24 hours if they don't have a license. "I dunno mate, but we're closed and receiving a delivery so you have to leave." Fortunately, The Star (part of the casino) is around the corner and they showed the game. But as I walked by the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel on the way home at 9:00am they appeared to be open, a whole hour earlier than they told me they would be.

TL;DR This place advertised being open 24 hours when they aren't, though it seems as though the staff just couldn't be bothered serving anyone and so claimed they were closed. The staff are rude, arrogant and patronising. And the place smells like a festival toilet that hasn't been cleaned for 4 days. Shocking. Avoid and go round the corner to The Star for an infinitely...

Security Guard Complaint- On the 30 of November 2024 we were hoping to have a few drinks at the hotel in celebration of a friends Birthday we were a party of 5 none of us were intoxicated at all, the bar area also was mostly empty with only a few customers at the bar. The security guard pointed straight to my partner who was just at the back talking to one of our friends and said “his not coming in” I asked him why he is denying him entry he said because his drunk. I told him that this is not true and he should talk to my partner and he will see he is not intoxicated . The security guard refused, I asked for the manager and he just stared at me and said go. I called reception and spoke to a lady called Tabitha who assured me that she will look at the cameras straight away. I am absolutely shocked that we were turned away from a practically empty bar in a time where all business are suffering due to economical strain., and based on no evidence that my partner was intoxicated or willing to talk him the Security guard basically just did not want him to enter on appearance he was wearing a green raincoat and carrying an umbrella. I would like to notify the owner of the establishment as he might loose a substantial amount of customers and revenue based on this particular Security Guard at the door. I would like a formal apology for the unwarranted behaviour and aggressive and rude behaviour towards me and unfair treatment towards my partner and our friends when none of us were intoxicated in anyway. You are welcome to contact me anytime please forward me the email or number of the owner so that I can get in contact with him or her. Looking forward to your response and resolve this matter....
