I live here for 4 months. In UME Haymarket with Poppy as a House Manager. How can i start:
1-AC broke 2 times leeking a lot, and for the house manager took 2-3 week to fix it (its almost in all the room the same) 2-Elevator for the main entry doesn't work and they don't ever care about it, so if you have an injure, go with heavy bags, dont even worry.. 3-Someone stole my computer for my room. The same day that they fix my AC they stole my computer for my room. (me and my roommate wasnt there because we were working, so Poppy supervise the all thing). They use 4 key cards that day (we only have 2) The answer for the house manager was: "Sorry, Camara wasnt working". She never call, never meet me, only texting, and its took like 3 week to have the big answer "Sorry, Camara wasnt working". 4- Camara do not work 5- Someone trough a metal chair for the 4 floor to the 1 floor breaking a huge table of glass, no consecuense because there is not camara so no security 6- The kitchen was always full of garbish and nobody care (its supose that you get a finance if you let everything messy, but doesnt work here) 7-Now that i leave the room, they want to discount for my bond almost 200 dollars because a profesional have to cleen (nobody told me this before) 8- Its been 10 days and i have no idea when the bond is comming back 9- The chill room were you can study or do important stuff was not working for 3 weeks even i say that it wasnt working 9-Poppy never want me to give me the contact of her supervisor 10- Worst experience i have had in a acommodation, dont come, really, dont come. 11- I thought on not putting this, because i dont like problems, but the experience was so bad that i take my time to write this. I hope they dont eliminate me, like Poppy did in the whatsapp group when i was telling to all the others tenant to be careful. 12-Now im fighting for my bond, because Poppy never say to me that i have to cleen the room like a profesional so she is charging me almost 200 dollars for that. And addding extra time for a cleaner that said that she wait 2 hours(7pm), when i have a screenshot that i was in the street at 5pm. 13- If you have a problem in the building Poppy will take at least 2-3 weeks to fix it, if she fix...
Read moreThis is my favourite hotel in Sydney, and I have stayed here about six times.
I love the winding halls and character of the heritage building in the old post office, and the convenient way I can exit either onto bustling George Street or directly into the Chinatown back streets. The location is fantastic and near so much good stuff including the cinema and Central station and some of my favourite restaurants. I've never had problem with noise from construction or other guests. Building feels very secure and the lift works great.
The front desk staff are always friendly and accommodating - I once booked a second night at the last minute and asked if it could be added on to my partner's existing booking and they took care of it for me smoothly and easily and made sure I didn't have to change rooms. I have also been upgraded in the past, and check out has always been fast and smooth. The one time I had a problem with my key they just recopied it and it worked fine.
The rooms themselves are always very clean and neat. Huge comfortable beds with great mattresses; my bad back and TMJ have never once caused me a problem in these rooms. Some can be a little small if you need a lot of space beyond the bed/storage/desk, but if you're doing a business overnight it really won't be a problem, and it's more than made up for by the fantastic price point. The rain showers are a lovely start to the day and always warm and I love the soak products.
Overall, it's not a luxury five star experience in the way you get for paying half a grand. But it's twenty times better than any hostel accommodation and has excellent value for money, something you can't often say about hotels. 1831 Boutique has character and is obviously really invested in my enjoyment and comfort, and that's why whenever I need to overnight close to my work or for late night CBD entertainment, it's the...
Read moreLocation was superb. No more construction as some other reviews had pointed out earlier. A short walk to either Central or Museum train station which made my trip to and from the airport easy, several bus stops nearby, and Chinatown, Paddy's Market, and the Capitol Theatre right by your doorstep.
It's insane the amount of great, affordable food is nearby, and on the weekend you've also got all the little food stalls lining the streets for another surprising treat.
The room itself was great. Windows, black-out curtains, fan and aircon that actually worked; the shower was a 'rain'-type which sort of massaged my back and shoulders if you put it on full pressure. Very quiet on the 4th floor and the lift worked fine.
The staff were very friendly and helpful; I needed to print some files out for a meeting, but none of the document printing places opened till 8:30 am. I messaged the front desk and they printed everything for me free of charge at about ~7-ish. Completely saved my morning!
I came to Sydney for a few days for work, and this is one of the best value places I've found. My room had a good, long desk with a comfortable chair and nearby power points, so I was able to do work quite comfortably.
Only 'annoyance' was that the side lamps and the desk lamp had very dim 'cool' (white) lights as opposed to a 'warm' (yellow) which made it hard to do any work at the desk or read in bed. The other issue was that the fan was placed in between two down lights, so you can't have the fan on with the room lights on, otherwise you feel like you're in a extractor fan chute because of the shadows bouncing...
