I’ve been a loyal customer ever since this restaurant open up their first branch in Strathfield, and I swear I always take everyone I knew- and by everyone I literally mean not just my family, friends, aunts, uncle, grandparents, with people i just met, even people i dont know, I will straight up mention and recommend HanSang as one of the best Korean food that has ever existed in Sydney. And I am happy that they open a branch in the city area.
So I just had a chance to visit this city branch for the first time and i am terribly disappointed. I came with my sister and her baby for lunch on July 14th around 12pm and as we are a group of 7 - we were directed to go to the 2nd floor. While we were going upstairs carrying the stroller, the waitress told us that no stroller is allowed upstairs- we have to leave it downstairs. The thing here is the stroller is playing a crucial part for my sister’s baby as the baby is not able to sit yet and have motoric problem- so the stroller is needed as it can lean back and its not the same as the normal baby chair. So i am completely understand with this policy as most restaurant also do this-i also didnt expect them to let us bring the stroller up. Instead, I suggested us to be seated on level 1 with separate table, and we promise the stroller wont be in the way or create disturbance - we just need to have lunch and the baby can also have lunch. But the waitress just arrogantly said No even after hearing our reasons and about my nephew’s condition without any empathy and feelings. After that she left us and got back to work. Wow, I feel like she just kicked us out. There are still so many empty tables and I positively assured you that a stroller can be arranged by the walls and will not cause any disturbance for the waiters or for any other groups which i believe will be more considerate than we expect.
I rarely go out with my nephew, so this experience is extremely painful memory- knowing that he has some disabilities. If he didnt really need his stroller it might be easier to tolerate this, but if only he is perfect and dont have some disabilities, maybe I wouldnt have been so offended and take it personal.
i think the food will be as awesome as the other branch. I always love their sam gye tang and bulgogi. I dont even complain about how expensive the price is, because I appreciate good and tasty food. Now everytime I eat here will always remember this as core memory,...
Read moreI ordered the Naju bone broth as I was dining alone. Great bone broth with tender slices of boiled beef slices. Comes with rice that pairs well with the soup. Expect long queue but the system is pretty efficient and they will only seat you if the whole party is present.
Most korean dining establishments provide banchan [side dishes] to diners. When my banchan were served, I notice that I had visibly lesser banchan than the table beside me [two diners]. I asked a female server if I was missing the banchan - she said because I was dining alone, I'm only entitled to 6 of the banchans instead of the whole suite given to larger dining groups. I asked if it would make a difference if I ordered another side dish - she said no. To which I said I will pay for the side dishes then. She told me that she needs to check with another senior person.
Said senior person came and I asked again - he showed me the menu to which it said, owing to inflation, all refills of side dishes are charged at A$1.50. But this sister wasn't even given the said side dishes to request for refills! By the principle of it - I was actually paying for what everyone else had as part of their meals! But you know what I really wanted the perilla leaves and green chili side dishes so I PAID. 🤷
Never been discriminated as as single diner in Korea before so not sure why this is the case here in Sydney. IF Hansang deems appropriate to shortchanged single diners owing to the lower revenue at least state upfront or let me choose the banchan I want. There were many larger tables that didn't even finish all their banchans resulting in a massive waste of...
Read moreWe ordered Short Rib soup, and it came with only "one" rib and 2 thin slice of beef for $25. The picture is different, which is very misleading. Just look at it the picture here. Rib is not even expensive, especially since this is the back rib, which probably costs around $12-$14 for more than 1 rib.
So i don't understand why it is so expensive for a piece of rib. Inflation?? Okay? Then, sell food that is perhaps put more slice of meat? Or more veggies at least. Don't be cheap with food and sell at an expensive price.
After payment, we asked the lady who took our payment as to why there's only 1 piece, and she replied, "It always has been like that," with such rude expression. Also, if you're Korean, be expected to overheard things (gossip) from staff.
We don't expect staff to be responsible as they're not the chefs. We asked because we want to know if what we paid is what we get? Perhaps the owner can talk among the chefs how to proportion the food well during this economy. Food cost is expensive, but this is ridiculous. My suggestion is to put more veggies or thin slices of meat.
We also ordered tofu stew (beef) if it was a pretty good proportion with lots of beef and tofu as it should be. I'm glad it was good. It was $24, $1 away from Short rib soup. With just $1 difference, they could've come up with ideas for this dish. Just two bowls are already $51. (Yeah crazy)
Please take this into consideration as you do get lots of customers, and we overheard many...
