It has been years since I visited David's Kitchen, and I'm really glad I did! It was like a revived forgotten positive memory of this place. Whilst it is not a swanky place, the amazing good food and service knock it out of the park as a very deserving 5-star rating.
Here are my highlights of my visit: Service: David welcomed us warmly when we first entered the eatery. This is despite not really knowing who we were. He also was patient in addressing the questions and requests we had. His staff were also amazingly polite and speedy. Everyone was truly friendly and top-notch in their service delivery. David also checked in while we were having our meal if we enjoyed it. Cleanliness: This place was very clean, and no table was left not cleared the moment patrons were done with their meal. The staff would check in if the plates were ready to be cleared as well before removing them. This is even before patrons leave the premise. I was also really pleased not to experience any greasy floors like a number of Asian restaurants of similar range could be. Food: The food was cooked really quickly, which was great as we were hungry when we were placing our order. The food also tasted generally authentic. For the dishes we ordered, the star was the salty fish with chicken fried rice. Specifically, the flavour was almost decadent as it had a really good amount of wok hei a.k.a. breath of wok. David conveyed our request, and the chef truly delivered. Each grain of rice had a balance of flavour, and it was also at the right level of saltiness. Every spoonful of the fried rice, I could taste the flavour on almost each grain of rice. The amount of salted fish was at the right level, and the amount of chicken was good too. As for the ginger shallot chicken, it was decent, and reminisce of Malaysian of what one may find at a chicken rice stall in KL, Malaysia. There is room for it to be more tender and smooth as it felt possibly a little overcooked. Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable given it was thigh meat used. The chicken was also deboned, which made it easy to eat. Both dishes were of really decent portion sizes for the price. I truly felt it was a true reflection of value for money. Love the fact that they do not charge weekend surcharges and, in fact, provided a 5% discount when cash payment is received. This in my books is a big plus & highlight.
This is a place I highly recommend patronising for anyone considering to check out and do say hi to David. I will be happy to...
Read moreSituated next to the corner of one of Sydney's busiest streets, David's Kitchen offers a huge range of Malaysian and Chinese menu options of the avid Asian food lover. Their prices are amongst the most affordable in the city which is matched with enormous serving sizes. Having returned multiple times to try a wide variety of options on their extensive menu I have rarely been left disappointed. Standout dishes include their Chicken Laksa, Special Fried Rice, Cashew Nut Chicken, Spicy Calamari and Nasi Goreng. They also have the added convenience of a window for quick takeaway options similar to your average food court store which offers 2 choices and rice. Since I have not tried any options from the window I am unable to comment on the quality of the food available there, although I would like to say that there is no alternative to ordering off the menu. However although their menu is extensive and they showcase clear culinary skill in preparing their dishes well I must say that their menu may be too large for their own good. Certain menu items such as the Thai Papaya Salad sometimes miss the mark but still comparative to the other options available in the city. Another added bonus is that they offer discounts of up to 30% via the Eat Club app if you're feeling like ordering dinner ahead for takeaway and a quiet night in. Overall, while they not be as flashy, modern or visibly standout as other major Malaysian/Chinese restaurants they are definitely a silent achiever and a force to be reckoned with. I'd offer more photos but the food is often eaten too quickly before I remember to...
Read moreDelicious food, good prices.
I was hungry one night as I walked past and saw the picture menu on the window. The food looked delicious and the advertised prices was reasonable good value so I decided to try it out.
As I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with a friendly smile and taken to a table. I was hungry, so I asked if I could upsize the hainan chicken and rice meal (quarter chicken) to a half chicken instead. I am not sure if the waitress understood what I meant but she said that I can't because the "meal set" is for one portion. I looked at other options on the menu and found half a paoched chicken with ginger and shallot. I decided to go with that and added a serve of chicken rice.
The chicken was presented well and looked very tasty. Unfortunately after taking a few bites, I realised the chicken was over cooked and a little dry, which was quite dissapointing considering how well it was plated. I also had to chase the waitress up on my drink order, which either was completely forgotten to bring out or she didn't enter it onto the order.
Overall it was still a decent meal considering the price. I will go back here but will most likely try a...
